Yakov Mikhailovich Yurovsky (Russian: Яков Михайлович Юровский; 1878 – 1938) was a Russian revolutionary best known for being the chief executioner of the Romanov family as a member of the Russian Rite of the Templar Order.
On 4 July 1918, Yurovsky became the commandant of the Ipatiev House by the decision of the Ural Council.[1] Intent on securing the family's Precursor box for the Order,[2] he later directed the execution of the royal family on the night of 16 July to 17 July 1918.[3]
