Wigmund (died 873), also known as The Tang, was an Anglo-Saxon earl and a Palatinus of the Order of the Ancients' Wardens of Wealth.
Biography[]
Wigmund was recognized by the Order as a man who exerted a grand influence and thus they installed him in Grantebridgescire. Along with the ties with key players, Wigmund overestimated his power and drove out the Danes and gain the land for the Order.[1]
The title, The Tang, was mentioned among other members of the Order once she finished renovating the Hidden Ones' bureau in Ravensthorpe.[2] In Grantebridgescire, Wigmund became the target for Soma, who revealed to the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir that Wigmund was one of the Order's members.[3]
After the rescue of Soma's allies, the strike against Wigmund was being planned. Together at Grantebridge, Wigmund waited above its gate as Soma and her allies neared it. There, Wigmund ignored Soma's option of no bloodshed, while Eivor set up explosives at the door, blew it open, and retook the city. However, Wigmund left the city before they had a chance to end his hold.[4]
From further investigation, it was proved that one of Soma's advisors helped Wigmund sack the city in the first place. After a pillage with Galinn[5], a raid with Birna[6], and the death of a priest with Lif[7], one of Wigmund's captains was captured for questioning. After confessing Wigmund's location, which is a monastery of the Isle of Ely, Wigmund's captain was killed by Galinn, which astonished his allies. After further investigation, it was concluded that Wigmund employed the help of Galinn to betray Soma, who killed Galinn instantly. Afterwards, the last clue from Soma confirmed that The Tang and Wigmund are one and the same.[8]
With forces combined, the monastery was stormed by the Vikings as Wigmund was inside a church. However, Wigmund was found and quickly assassinated by Eivor.[9]
Trivia[]
- Like certain Order members, Wigmund's cutscene in the Memory Corridor differed, as he was seen running away from Eivor, with a bunch of faceless, motionless guards surrounding him. However, in the end of the cutscene, Wigmund had nowhere to run and then Eivor took the medallion from him, as usual.
