Vejovis is an Isu who survived the Great Catastrophe by entering The Grey. Before he uploaded his consciousness, however, Vejovis seeded his memories into the human genome so that reincarnations of himself would unwittingly work towards his resurrection as a corporeal being in the modern day.
Tens of thousands of years after the cataclysm which doomed the First Civilization, Vejovis was upheld as an Etruscan deity and revered by the ancient Romans as a god of regeneration and healing.
Biography[]
During the Isu Era, Vejovis managed to create human Sages of himself as part of a plan for a future resurrection, that also used a double bladed dagger. Around this time, he uploaded his consciousness to The Grey.[1]
In the 870s, he appeared as a hologram before Alva, one of his Sages, in an Isu chamber at the Londinium bureau. He addressed both her and Joey, another Sage of his that would relive Alva's memories in 2022. He urged them to locate the blade by finding his Sage and that with the message transmitted, they should destroy the chamber. Alva touched a panel nearby, starting a countdown before running out of the bureau, falling to the ground outside due to rumbling caused by the technology collapsing the passage behind her.[2]
In the 1480s, he appeared as a hologram before another of his Sages, the Assassin Giulia, in the hidden vault beneath the Basilica di San Marco. There he instructed her to hide the half of his dagger deeper within the vault, so the "spectator" of her memories could get it in their time.[3]
In 2022, Joey relived the memories of Alva and asked if his companions, Colm and Alera knew who he was, to which Colm responded that they had no records of an Isu with that name but Alera mentioned they had one under ⟨V⟩. Colm proceeded to say that Vejovis was not to be trusted, with Isu objectives far beyond their understanding.[2] After reliving the memories of Faisal, an Assassin during the Third Crusade, Joey recognized Faisal's face as Vejovis', being so startled that he lurched out of the Animus. Colm asked Alera if it was a glitch, with the systems bleeding over from one simulation to another, but she responded that it did not work that way and that if Joey saw Vejovis, it meant he was there. Colm pondered if that meant Faisal was a Sage, and Alera explained to Joey what that meant, including that the simulation could have confused Faisal's genetics with Vejovis', which would explain the identical face.[4]
Later on, after Joey joined the two halves of the blade in the vault under the Basilica di San Marco, he appeared as a hologram, congratulating Joey on bringing the two parts of the dagger together and making it possible for him to become corporeal again. Alera tried to attack the hologram, but Vejovis made Joey swipe at her before revealing that he was one of his Sages, and that by reliving the memories of his other Sages and connecting the blades, Vejovis' being would bleed into Joey's before long. To stop this process from happening, Joey tried to separate the blades, shattering one half of it, and destroyed the part of the pedestal that the hologram was coming from, making Vejovis disappear back into the Grey.[1]
