The Uí Néill were a collection of Irish royal dynasties who claim descent from Niall Noígíallach, a historical King of Tara who died in 405. They were related to Connachta, another group of Irish dynasties that claimed to be the descendants of the legendary High King Conn Cétchathach. It was divided into northern and southern branches that ruled specific parts of Ireland such as Meath. The most notable member was Flann Sinna, the High King of Ireland.[1]
