Tunis is the capital city of Tunisia.
History[]
In 1511, the Templars maintained a strong presence in Tunis and bribed the Hafsid King Muhammad IV to allow only Templar-approved merchants to bring goods into the city's markets. A group of Ottoman Assassins sent from Constantinople by the Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze stole the bribes, putting the money to better uses.[1] They also eliminated the king's extortionists who enforced his strict quotas and mandates that benefited the Templars' goals at the expense of Tunis' farmers.[2]
Later on, several Tunisian community leaders planned to meet with European merchants to discuss fruitful trade arrangements and revive the country's crippled economy. The Assassins accompanied and protected them,[3] before turning their attention to corrupt Hafsid ministers bribed by the Templars to loosen restrictions on imports and exports. The Brotherhood eliminated the most corrupt ministers to send a message that corruption would not be tolerated,[4] and eventually expelled the Templars from the city. To solidify their control, the Assassins then installed several Dens.[5]
