The Trade Delegate was a virtual representation of one of Basim Ibn Ishaq's genetic memories.[1]
Description[]
Basim was tasked with rescuing the Trade Delegate.
Contract[]
The Trade Delegate
- My fellow Hidden Ones!
The Trade Delegate has gone missing! The last anyone heard, he was travelling near a watering well in the Wilderness south of the city. His friends fear something most unfortunate has beset him. It may even be the bandits retaliating in response to the killing of the Perfume Trader... whom I suspect was not the ringleader we assumed him to be.
We must find the Delegate, and if he is alive, bring him back to safety. After all, his death could damage our commercial arrangements with the merchants. Their contracts bring in a steady income, which we can ill afford to lose!
–Abu Jafar
Dialogue[]
Basim accepted the contract and followed the trail out from Baghdad to where the Trade Delegate frequented. There, Basim dispatched of the remaining bandits and investigated the area. He found a clue near a broken cart.
- Basim: Signs of a struggle... there was violence here. Though probably not deadly violence.
Basim soon found drag marks nearby.
- Basim: These marks on the ground suggest someone was dragged away. A kidnapping, perhaps? Most likely the delegate was taken somewhere nearby... I must find him before it is too late.
Basim followed the drag marks and found the Spymaster's Camp. There, he saw the Trade Delegate caged.
- Basim: Here is the spot.
Basim found his way to the delegate's cage.
- The Trade Delegate: About time. Promptness is clearly not your strong suit.
Basim opened the cage and picked the man up.
- Basim: Are you injured?
- The Trade Delegate: No, I always grimace when I'm having fun.
Basim cleared the area of the bandits.
- Basim: The danger has passed.
Basim took the delegate away from the camp and placed him on the ground.
- Basim: They were keeping you alive for a reason.
- The Trade Delegate: It seems the perfume trader you killed was not the mastermind behind all this. Instead, they intended to bring me to the person he reported to, though for what reason I do not yet know.
- Basim: Whatever the reason, that meeting would have ended badly for you.
- The Trade Delegate: Which is why I'm grateful for your intervention, belated though it was. Now I must go. But I will contact you soon.
Outcome[]
Basim rescued the merchant and learned that the masterminds behind the attacks remained at large.
