One of the figurines
The Sons of Niall, also known as Uí Néill Artifacts, were a set of five stone figurines carved by Niall of the Nine Hostages, a High King of Ireland. Together, they acted as a key to his prized treasure, the personal shield of the Irish mythical hero Cú Chulainn. Naill did not bequeath his shield to his children for fear of causing discord, so he locked it away and had it buried with him. However, he did leave the stone figurines to four of his sons, with two going to Conall mac Néill on the advice of a mystic. The figurines were later buried across Ireland with five of the grandsons of Niall. The Sons of Niall were later gathered together by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, who used them to retrieve the Cú Chulainn Shield from Uí Néill's Rest after hearing about them from Flann Sinna.[1]

While Niall purportedly had over a dozen grandsons, the five that inherit the figurines coincide with the five mentioned in a graphic of his family tree on his Wikipedia page.[2]
