The Myth in the Mountains was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
A legendary Pict warrior is spoken of in fear.
Dialogue[]
Eivor Varinsdottir approached a Pict encampment nearby Kinder Downfall, where she overheard a conversation between the warriors.
- Pict Warrior 1: Did you hear what happened to Archibald?
- Pict Warrior 2: Aye, the drunken fool. I was there when he lit that thing on fire. We all told him not to, but he dared tempt fate.
- Pict Warrior 1: You saw it all? Go on, tell us what happened.
- Pict Warrior 2: The myths, Wilfred, they're true. A legendary Pict warrior who can rip a wolf apart with his bare hands!
- Pict Warrior 1: You saw him?
- Pict Warrior 2: I don't know what we saw, not exactly, but there's something up there.
- Pict Warrior 2: Archibald held his torch all brave like after lighting the fire. The next thing we know, his head dropped to his feet! We ran!
- Pict Warrior 1: Should we at least fetch his body?
- Pict Warrior 2: You can. I won't go back up that cursed mountain for all the silver in this land.
Eivor found and read a letter on a tree stump.
- Letter
The Great Archibald goes forth!
Finally, dearest Sibley, my friends and I have found out where the great Pict Legend resides. We just need to follow the trail of trophies atop the Kinder Downfall! There really was someone killing bears in the forest, leaving a grand bloody trail. He is not a myth! Only he could have done this! Once we hunt him down, the Great Archibald will be famous throughout Hemthorpe and be rid of his life of poverty.
Eivor followed the trail of carcasses up the hill, encountering some fossils en-route. Atop the hill she found strawman next to a tree, alongside several skulls and the body of Archibald. Eivor lit the strawman on fire, and was soon approached by the legendary warrior.
- Eivor: Speak your name, warrior.
The warrior did not respond.
- Eivor: Have it your way.
Eivor and the legendary warrior began to fight.
- Pict Warrior 3: Your life's purpose was to die for me.
- Eivor: So, he speaks.
Eivor defeated the warrior, killing him.
- Eivor: You fought well, warrior. But your legend ends, bound to no name.
Eivor travelled nearby to find a small campsite and read a letter she found on a bench.
- A Letter from Causantin mac Cináeda
Elite of elites, the great warriors of Clan Dunbar, you are tasked to scout for weaknesses of the wretched Danes that occupy Northumbria. Do not rest until you find the chink in their armor.
Eivor picked up the body of the legendary warrior and carried it back down to the original Pict encampment.
- Eivor: Your friend has been avenged.
- Pict Warrior 1: Y-you killed the legendary warrior? Th-that is madness! Y-you're crazy!
- Pict Warrior 2: Well, the Old Arch can rest easy, now.
Outcome[]
Eivor tracked down the legend and slayed the man.
