The Fatherless Monk was a virtual representation of one of Fujibayashi Naoe's genetic memories, relived through the Animus EGO.[1]
Description[]
Naoe travels to southern Izumi Settsu to seek out Kyonyo, a leader of the Ikko-ikki remnants fighting against Oda Nobunaga's group.
Dialogue[]
Naoe approached near the Gansenji Temple, where she heard some commotion.
- Naoe: Sounds like a big fight. I'll need a better view.
As she approached the temple, she caught sight of several bodies, as well clashes between ashigaru and the temple's sōhei. Naoe aided the monks in eliminating the soldiers, while hearing their chants.
- Kyonyo: Namu Amida Butsu!
- Warrior Monk Shooter: Namu Amida Butsu!
- Warrior Monk Archer: Namu Amida Butsu!
- Warrior Monk: Namu Amida Butsu!
- Naoe: That must be Kyonyo. They need help.
Entering the courtyard, Naoe encountered more of Nobunaga's soldiers.
- Kyonyo: Fight for something greater than yourself! The Great Amida will forgive you.
After eliminating the remaining soldiers, Naoe met with Kyonyo in front of a small shrine.
- Kyonyo: I didn't think anyone would come.
- Naoe: You expected reinforcements?
- Kyonyo: Only halfheartedly. When my father called for aid, thousands would come. I send letters and not a soul replies. Except you. I am Kyonyo.
They greeted one another with a bow.
- Naoe: Naoe. It wasn't a letter that brought me here. More an... instinct.
- Kyonyo: No matter what brought you here, your help was needed. Our home, Honganji, has been reduced to ashes. Ten years we struggled against Oda Nobunaga. Ny father finally signed a peace treaty and retreated. Took most of his followers with him.
- Naoe: So all you see here is all who are left.
- Kyonyo: Our precious Honganji. And the lord daimyo orders Hashiba Hideyoshi to build a castle in its place! On our land! I wouldn't give up. And for that, I am disowned. I will never stop fighting Oda Nobunaga.
- Naoe: He burned my home to he ground too.
- Kyonyo: So that's what brought you here?
- Naoe: No. I made a promise to my father. To retrieve a box that stolen by one of his murderers.
- Kyonyo: A father's wish is a powerful thing. Disobeying mine cost me everything.
- Naoe: My father cut the ear off one of the men. I was told he might be near Sakai. So I found you.
- Kyonyo: One ear, eh?
Kyonyo pondered for a moment.
- Kyonyo: When Oda Nobunaga took over, he put one of his most savage dogs in charge. Wada Koretake. Many call him the one-eared demon. The men you fought were his.
- Naoe: It's him! Only demons would do what they did to my father.
- Kyonyo: Immoral to his core. He pillages, destroys our relics, burns our temples. These are objects, yes, but they are symbols of our teachers. Five hundred years of history desecrated by a one-eared madman.
- Naoe: Then let's find him.
- Kyonyo: He is hard to track. The only evidence he leaves behind are corpses. Burned. Beheaded. Or both. But with you... maybe my fortune is turning.
- Ashigaru: (groans)
From a corner, a still-living soldier was thrown down the stairs by a large woman.
- Yaya: I caught this one running back to his master.
The soldier pleaded for his life but was nonetheless struck down by Kyonyo.
- Ashigaru: (gurgles)
- Yaya: Kyonyo! We could have used him.
- Kyonyo: What? Koretake's worms would rather die than talk.
- Yaya: Why is the sword your first response?
- Naoe: Naoe, this is Yaya. Fought for my father in the war. Abandoned me like he did.
- Yaya: Not true. You called for help, I came back.
- Naoe: I want to join you two. To find Wada Koretake.
- Yaya: Not another corrupted for Kyonyo's hopeless cause.
- Naoe: My father taught me that as long as we are breathing, there is hope.
- Yaya: Hm. It's good to see some people still listens to their fathers.
- Kyonyo: You wound me.
- Yaya: You both seem steadfast on your path of destruction. I heard one of Koretake's men speak of the chief Executioner in Nanatsumatsu. He may know where to find Koretake. But I know the place. No one visits and returns the same. Especially not a lone girl.
- Kyonyo: You didn't see her fight. She'll be fine. Still we'll need allies. Find Mitsumune at Nunobiki Falls. He leads the last survivors of Honganji who have formed an ikki.
Kyonyo handed a letter to Naoe.
- Naoe: I will go to them. Thank you.
Naoe bowed in gratitude.
- Kyonyo: There is a farm house near the river. Meet me there when you're done.
Outcome[]
Naoe helped Kyonyo repel Nobunaga's men at the Gansenji Temple, learning that a samurai named Wada Koretake was the one of those who killed her father. She was directed to recruit an ally named Mitsuhime and track down one of Wada's executioner.
