The Curse of Fame was a virtual representation of one of Kassandra's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
Thespis tasked Kassandra with finding the actor who was to play the role of Xerxes I in his latest play.
Dialogue[]
Kassandra found the actor and untied him.
- "Xerxes": Thank the gods!
- Kassandra: Don't thank them yet. Let's get out of here.
She escorted the actor away from the ruins.
- "Xerxes": Thank you! I don't think I could have survived much longer.
- Kassandra: Why were those malákas keeping you prisoner?
- "Xerxes": They were raving, convinced I'm the villains I play. They wanted me to lead them in a dark ceremony and tortured me to recite their spells... Nothing was enough.
- Kassandra: You're safe now.
- "Xerxes": I am, but the witch has plans to harm the citizens of Elis. She says they wronged her, so she poisoned a shipment of supplies for the city!
- Kassandra: I'll have to destroy those supplies before they get there.
- "Xerxes": But now that she knows you're here, she'll leave her hiding place and flee into the wilderness! No one will be safe if she escapes.
Kassandra destroyed the supplies.
- Kassandra: I destroyed the poisoned supplies before they could reach Elis.
- "Xerxes": That's good, but the witch is still out there. Nobody really safe... I'm not safe.
- Kassandra: You think Xerxes was ever safe? Leonidas and his Spartans wanted him dead. His own mother would betray him given the chance.
- "Xerxes": Xerxes asking for safety... You're right, the King of Persia would never grovel. He'd crush his enemies before they could execute their plans.
- Kassandra: I'm glad you see it that way. You should get back to Thespis.
- "Xerxes": I will, and thank you. Xerxes will rule at last!
- Kassandra: Happy to have helped, your majesty.
Kassandra headed back into the ruins, where she engaged the witch in combat.
- Witch: I'll drink your blood from your scull! You'll be gone to Hades soon!
Despite her boasting, the witch proved no match for Kassandra and was killed.
- Kassandra: That witch is dead, thank Zeus.
With the witch taken care of, Kassandra returned to "Xerxes".
- Kassandra: That horrible witch won't hurt anyone ever again.
- "Xerxes": Oh, thank you! That delusional hag turned her followers against me. But now that she's dead, I should be fine. Right?
- Kassandra: You'll be fine. You should go on and play your part knowing Xerxes is safe.
- "Xerxes": You're right, Xerxes was sure of himself. A god among men! I should be as confident as him.
- Kassandra: I'm glad you see it that way. You should get back to Thespis.
- "Xerxes": I will, and thank you. Xerxes will rule at last!
- Kassandra: Happy to have helped, your majesty.
Outcome[]
Kassandra secured Xerxes for the play, while also stopping a threat to the city.
