This article is about Temple of Poseidon on Island of Triton. For other uses, see Temple of Poseidon.
The Temple of Poseidon was a ruined temple located on the small Island of Triton in the Aegean Sea between the islands of Chios and Samos, Greece.
By the Peloponnesian War in the 5th century BCE, the temple had been rendered a ruin, and was overrun by a pack of lions. The Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the island while hunting for a Makedonian bracelet for the pirate queen Xenia. Instead of the bracelet, Kassandra found Poseidon's Trident, and slew the leader of the pack.[1]
