Taureas was a Spartan commander during the 5th century BCE.

Biography[]

During the Peloponnesian War, Taureas was stationed in Elis. His unit was driven out of their first campsite by wild boars, and Taureas was forced to leave behind his 'token of luck'. A little while later, he won a gamble against an actor who was meant to play the Spartan officer Dienekes in a play by Thespis. As the actor was unable to pay off his debts, Taureas employed him as one of his slaves. Later on, Taureas made a deal with the Spartan misthios Kassandra in exchange for the actor's freedom.[1]

Trivia[]

Taureas is a character in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey whose name is based on the Latin word taurus, meaning 'bull'.

  • Regardless of who controls the region, Taureas is always a Spartan although his men wear the green of the unaligned.
  • He can be knocked out and recruited as a lieutenant for the Adrestia.
