I may no be the best person to know it myself, because 1) I've not read either novelization; and 2) I don't know Spanish; but a friend who does (she's not on Wikia) translated the quote, here given as, "I would gladly sacrifice myself and everyone I care for, so that the Creed lived on," and her translation was this:

"Love renders us weak. I would gladly sacrifice my flesh and my blood so that the Creed may live."

If anyone here knows Spanish and/or has read the novelization, please clarify.

Revision as of 19:45, 8 January 2017

Name

I know that Maria is not named even once throughout the entirety of the movie, but is there any canonical source (novelization, promotional media etc.) which mentions her full name?

Jetfire343 (talk) 00:35, January 5, 2017 (UTC)

As far as I'm aware, there isn't. She's simply called Maria - in the credits of the movie, in the novelization, in any of the interviews, etc. Crook The Constantine District 09:34, January 5, 2017 (UTC)
[Jeremy Brett Sherlock imitation] What prestigious way to honour a deuteragonist! Even minor characters and practical nobodies like Duccio have canonical last names...
Jetfire343 (talk) 19:33, January 5, 2017 (UTC)
Not the same writers as the one that gave Duccio his last name :p But yeah, the movie's writers apparently couldn't be bothered, since a lot of the characters (Lin, Nathan, Emir, McGowen, Ojeda, etc.) only have one name. Crook The Constantine District 19:38, January 5, 2017 (UTC)
Of the ones you've named, only Ojeda is a character actually referred to by name in the movie itself... The rest (and Maria) are never referred to by name :(
Going off-topic, I instinctively think it's de la Torre; I've got some sort of feeling one of her family was related to Governor de Torres (de Torres being a variant of the surname de la Torre), and possibly even betrayed the Assassins to the Templar Order, or maybe she was the only one of her family to betray the family tradition in a lineage of Templars... And I do not underestimate this feeling, because, you know... "The world is woven from billions of lives, every strand crossing every other. [This kind of feeling] is just movement of the web." And - "Intuitions are not to be ignored, [...] They represent data processed too fast for the conscious mind to comprehend."

3 Things

(2 & 3 being mere remarks and observations, which may be useful somewhere)

1) What happened to that image of the execution scene? (Aguilar and Maria watching their Mentor burn, as they're bound by chains)

2) Does not the colour-palette of the historical scenes from the movie resemble that of Damascus from the first AC?

3) Two-pronged hidden blade? Predator's Creed, if you ask me...

Jetfire343 (talk) 18:00, January 7, 2017 (UTC)

I removed the image of the execution scene because it wasn't representative of the movie. Generally, promotional screenshots/stills are released during the ad campaign for the game, or in this case, the movie. However, these are usually taken from a cinematic angle or have been edited in some way, making them an "inaccurate" representation of the product. In this case, I removed it because that's not a shot from the movie itself, which you can tell from the fact that it doesn't have the Damascus colour palette, as you noted :p Crook The Constantine District 18:18, January 7, 2017 (UTC)
I've appropriately moved the image on the page for the movie.
