Curiosity[]
I actually want to know why developers select to say The West Indies for the Caribbean? Because everyone knows there as Caribbean not West Indies. It can make someone confused who don't or didn't searched these names. I must admit i learnt the West Indies means Caribbean after a few clicks. Thats just a bit curiosity why devs didn't choose to say Caribbean. Its sounds more cool when pirates appears ^-^ (BaroNest (talk) 14:06, August 21, 2013 (UTC))
- Because that's what it was commonly called back then; it was only a little over 200 years since Columbus' voyage to the Americas, when his intention was to go the the [East] Indies, the islands in Southeast Asia. Since the Americas were to the west of Europe, the island grouping there was labelled the West Indies. Or something like that. -- Master Sima Yi Talk 14:53, August 21, 2013 (UTC)
