Are "Novice" and "Master Assassin" the only titles known by name? --Silver Mage Ω 09:48, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

- Yeah. The only rank alluded to in AC2 is "Master Assassin". --Silver Mage Ω 13:40, February 15, 2010 (UTC)
guys, are we for sure that he starts at rank ten?? because obviously he has rank nine equipment. (not having the syrain sword like Al mualim does (and Al mualim almost kills him with it too when altair yells at him at like rank 6 or something)) also, when he is given the silver knife al mualim says "your previous rank is restored to you" or something like that. I might be wrong, but do we have proof that hes a master assassin in the begining? or just "superior in both rank and skill" CarloGrimaldi 03:17, June 5, 2010 (UTC)
I have just checked it out and Altaïr is equipped with "Old Syrian Sword" in Solomons temple, aka the beginning :)
Plus Altaïr also have the maximum amount of trowing knifes.

oh. everyone says that the assassin sword was his original, nevermind then. thanks. CarloGrimaldi 20:41, June 7, 2010 (UTC)
No problem, it confused me as well that the best sword in AC2 is Altaïr's sword, which is the 3rd last sword Altaïr receives in AC 1, the second last is one like Altaïr's sword but with a blank metal handle. The last and best sword Altaïr gets is the Syrian Sword, which is one of the beginner swords in AC 2.
I have hat some thoughts of why... Because it seams a bit strange that the best sword in AC 1 is the 3rd worst sword in AC2... And i don't believe its because Ubisoft overlooked this fact. So i have thought out two explanations:
1. the two time periods had two different fighting styles. In Assassins creed 1 it is against knights and saracens, equipped for war. They either wear leather plate or chain mail making them heavier and slower then the guards of AC 2. and i know from studies that in the middle that a sharp, nimble sword might not always be as effective as a heavy massive sword, because the light sharp one wouldn't be able to cut through the chain mail any way, a heavy sword could bend the plates of an plated armor, making movements impossible. Where in the renaissance it is guards equipped with light armor or non at all (except the bruits (or how they are spelled )), which make them a lot faster and with better movement and such. In this case a light sharp nimble sword would be better, since speed is what you need... and it is also speed you use to kill the Bruits anyway.
The Syrian sword is more massive then Altaïrs sword, and therefor we must assume it is heavier, therefor better to deflect the heavy swords the knights also uses, and better to damage opponents in chain mail. It might be the explanation... but it could also be
2. Since the Syrian Sword is named "Old Syrian Sword" the age might have either made it common, make it used and theirfor not as good as in its younger days, or the model is simply outdated... but then, since Altaïrs sword is from the same age as old Syrian sword, they should theoretically have been used equally.
I don't know which it is, if its a change of fighting style that makes Altaïrs sword better then Syrian sword in AC 2... or if its just Ubisoft who have made an small error...

- My idea? Altaïr links to eagles are undeniable, and he liked the other sword better. He upgraded it with knowledge from the Apple (maybe reforged using the same materials his armor were made of), and abondened the sirian. The sirian word, on the other way, hasn't changed a bit since the crusades, with the same blade, weight and balnce flaws it had since there, making it somewhat unsuitable for Renaissance and therefore being inferior to Altaïr's favorite sword. ;D -- D. It might be possible, but if it were so.. wouldn't have been mentioned in the codex how to make such a perfect sword? like the armor and all the other weapons and techniques have been mentioned?

Article Rename[]
Should we rename this article to "Assassin Ranks"? "Ranks" just sounds too vague.95.144.55.43 15:02, April 6, 2012 (UTC)
- Seems nobody cares. But my point remains; I really think "Assassin Ranks" sounds better.
