In 431 BCE, after Hippokrates left Argos in a hurry during the war, Sostratos remained behind in the clinic to do what he could. A while later, he was confronted by Chrysis, a priestess of Hera from the nearby Heraion of Argos, who gave him the verbal lashing as she demanded to know where Hippokrates had gone. Sostratos refused to tell Chrysis where Hippokrates was, which led her to threaten to burn down the clinic with the apprentice inside. Their exchange was cut short by the appearance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who had come to the clinic looking for the healer himself.
Personality and characteristics
According to Hippokrates, Sostratos made good enough of a doctor, but he was unparalleled as an apprentice.
