Skamandrios the Shadow was a mercenary operating in Kephallonia around the start of the Peloponnesian War.
He disappeared when he attempted to sneak into the base of the Cyclops of Kephallonia, most likely being captured and executed.
Biography[]
In 431 BCE, Skamandrios accepted an assignment which involved infiltrating the home of the Cyclops, a local crime lord who had established himself as a de facto ruler of the island. The Cyclops' base at Kleptous Bay was as well-guarded as a fort, and despite Skamandrios' famed nimbleness he was almost certainly caught and killed. Another mercenary on Kephallonia, Kassandra, later pondered Skamandrios' disappearance and what brutal demise he might have suffered, as burning, flaying, and dismemberment were but a few of the Cyclops' usual methods of execution.[1]
Personality and traits[]
Skamandrios earned his nickname, the Shadow, because he was known by the Kephallonians for his stealth and swiftness, skills that he was quite proud of. Nonetheless, owing to his disappearance, his skills were likely not good enough for him to evade detection and capture at the Cyclops' base.[1]
Trivia[]
- Skamandrios is a name derived from the ancient name of the Karamenderes River, Scamander, flowing near the city of Troy.
