Description[]
Eivor travelled to Aquila to search for "Little Mother."
Dialogue[]
Eivor headed to St. Taurinus Tavern to find more information about Little Mother as she heard soldiers talking.
- French Soldier 1: It's painful enough dealing with these zealots, but it's even worse since that nun got her fancy prisoner.
- French Soldier 2: Shh! We are not supposed to talk about it. Do you not fear God?
Eivor entered the tavern and spoke with the tavernkeep.
- Eivor: Tavernkeep! I'm new here. Can you tell me about Little Mother?
- French Man 1: Her deliverance rituals are all these drunkards talk about. Isn't that right, Bastien, you loudmouth sot!
- French Soldier 3: (laughs)
- French Man 1: Take a seat, Northerner! Bastien's buying, and he'll tell you all about it! Right, Bastien?
- French Soldier 3: That's me alright! Bastien the Loudmouth. Bastien the Drunk. And let's not forget, Bastien the Drink-buyer, eh barkeep. Sit down, Northerner! I'll buy you a drink too.
Eivor took a seat next to Bastien and other soldiers.
- French Soldier 3: You have us at an advantage, Northerner. Where do you hail from?
- Eivor: I just got in from Melun.
- French Soldier 3: Melun! You're not one of Sigfred's, are you?
- Eivor: I'm just passing through, friend.
- French Soldier 3: Do not go through Aquila! That's where they take the poor fools for deliverance. They might take you too! (laughs)
- French Soldier 4: (laughs)
- Eivor: Tell me about Little Mother and her deliverance rituals.
- French Soldier 3: I can tell you it's a lot of extra work for us! Since she got her special prisoner, it's worse.
- French Soldier 4: Shh! Bastien! We can't speak of God's business!
- Eivor: A special prisoner?
- French Soldier 3: Someone close to the king, they say. A woman, no less.
- French Soldier 4: Mon Dieu! (My God!) Bastien!
- French Soldier 3: Ah, but we cannot speak of that lest God hears us. Drink up, my friends! Bastien is buying!
Eivor left the tavern and headed outside, only to hear another conversation.
- French Soldier 5: Little Mother just won't let us rest! We are working day and night. I'm barely getting any sleep!
Eivor spoke to the soldier.
- Eivor: I overheard you mention Little Mother.
- French Soldier 5: What are you doing listening to people's conversation? Damned Northerner!
- Eivor: Easy friend, I am just curious.
- French Soldier 5: If you're so interested in Little Mother, you can walk out the back, up the path, and knock on her door.
Eivor travelled and came across Little Mother's House. Eivor came across two guards.
- Eivor: Little Mother's house. I should look around.
- French Soldier 6: People say Little Mother is a fanatical, but the truth is she helped me turn my life around.
- French Soldier 7: Me too, brother. She was the only one who ever told me the hard truth. I could not deny it.
- French Soldier 6: Amen. I wouldn't listen to anyone, but I listened to her. I'm a better man today because of it.
Eivor entered the house and looked around. Eivor found a letter made to Little Mother.
Mysterious Letter
- Little Mother,
The situation with the king has deteriorated. I have decided the queen's apostasy and interference can be suffered no longer. Her removal has been arranged.
Await at Evreux for further word. Once we have her, she wil be brought to you. Take her immediately to Aquila for deliverance.
Our victory is almost in our hands. Do not falter.
Soli Deo gloria,
- Isidore
- Eivor: Little Mother has the queen. The seal on this note is the same symbol I found in Engelwin's room.
Eivor looked around and went downstairs, as she heard a voice.
- French Man 2: Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee. He will flee. He will flee.
Eivor saw a man caged.
- Eivor: I will get you out of there.
- French Man 2: No! Leave me alone! I have to pray so my deliverance will come. Go away!
Eivor found a note near the caged man.
Dead Man's Notes
- 4 - LM at Evreux
7 - LM near Paris. Why?
10 - LM again at Evreux
11 - LM gone from Evreux
13 - LM's house still unattended
15 - LM back at Evreux
17 - LM at Evreux
20 - LM still at Evreux. Waiting for something?
22 - A large group arrived at LM's house, then left toward Aquila. The queen amongst them! Could not follow.
22 - Someone is watching me...
- Eivor: Says here Little Mother plans to put the queen through a deliverance ritual. Mentions an underground chamber beneath the crypt in Aquila. I need to find that crypt.
Eivor arrived in Aquila as she planned to kill Little Mother.
- Eivor: It would be wise to cover up. The less attention I draw, the easier it will be to find the queen.
Eivor stealthily intruded into the town and heard a child singing.
- French Child 1: There was a man who went to bed,
the devil got inside his head,
deli-vry-ance for him they said,
then Little Mother killed him dead.
Eivor spoke with the child.
- Eivor: Hey there! Who taught you that song?
- French Child 1: I made it up myself! It's about the deli-vry-ance they do at the creep. I think they must have delivery-ed this deer too.
- Eivor: The creep ... you mean the crypt?
- French Child 1: Yeah. I see people go there all the time, but I'm not allowed. Mother says the guard will beat me if I go too close.
- Eivor: I will have a talk with those crypt guards.
- French Child 1: Be careful! Don't talk to Little Mother! She'll give you a de-liv-er-y-ance and you'll end up like the deer!
Eivor infiltrated the town's graveyard as soldiers patrolled it.
- French Soldier 8: I've lost my family, my future, and now the key to the crypt as well. The only thing I have left is wine so ... santé (cheers)!
- French Soldier 9: Keep your voice down! You've made enough trouble tonight. If the captain finds you drinking, you're done. And if he finds that we've lost the key, we're both done. Keep quiet and help me look for it.
Sleuthing around, Eivor found the key near a stone coffin.
- Eivor: The guard's key. It must unlock something nearby.
Eivor looked around and noticed a locked crypt. Using the key, Eivor followed the path down to the Aquila Sewers.
- Eivor: There is a smell of blood amongst the dust, and a taste of iron on my tongue.
Eivor also noted a stone coffin in front of the room.
- Eivor: A Christian sarcophagus. Most are ancient, but this one is new.
Eivor searched the area and found a woman arguing with the current situation.
- French Woman 1: This is the queen, no matter what the Bellatores say! Surely Little Mother won't hurt her. It isn't right.
Eivor spoke to the woman.
- French Woman 1: O! You startled me. You are one of the new assistants? Good, that is good.
- Eivor: Yes, I have been sent to help.
- French Woman 1: You've picked a bad time. They have the queen in there. It doesn't seem right. I ... I don't think I can do it.
- Eivor: I will. Tell me what to do.
- French Woman 1: Really? Okay, Little Mother needs her knife dipped in sacrificial blood. It is on the table. Then you must take it to her.
- Eivor: Alright. I'll prepare the knife and take it to Little Mother. You stay here.
Eivor took the knife from the table and read the directions.
New Assistant Directions
- Most Serious Exhortation to New Assistants
The preparation of the dagger must be performed perfectly. The devil is watching. There can be no error. Assistants who came before have suffered for their carelessness. Therefore be vigilant.
When you enter the preparation room, you are entering a tabernacle of God. Be mindful and do everything in humility or obedience.
Take the dagger and dip its blade into the blood of the sacrifice. No blood must go into the hilt. Once the blade is dipped, do not touch it. It is holy.
Enter the inner chamber with reverance. When I beckon, present the dagger to me with hilt forward. Keep your eyes lowered. Do not speak. Do not look at my charge. Once the dagger is passed, leave quickly and without sound.
Do this, and no harm will befall you. The devil cannot touch you.
- Little Mother
- Eivor: The knife is well made, but the edge is dull. It would not cut easily. I need to dip it in the blood.
Eivor looked over at certain devices.
- Eivor: Deliverance seems to come at a high price.
Eivor later found the sacrificial blood and dipped the knife.
- Eivor: The knife is covered in blood. I can use it to get close to Little Mother while keeping the queen safe.
Eivor went to Euphrasia's sanctum, without any preparations. However, the door was locked.
Eivor looked around and noticed a slip below. Sliding through, Eivor found a key and a letter.
Bellatores Letter
- Euphrasia,
Once the queen is secured, you must move quickly. We cannot expect her abduction to remain undiscovered long.
The queen above all others is key to Francia's deliverance. Do not wait for her consent. Do not attempt to reason with her. God himself has delivered her into our hands, and we must fulfill the duty before us. Purge the devil from her completely.
If you are interrupted before the task is accomplished, she must die at your hand. We cannot let her live under the power of evil to influence the king further.
Do not be concerned by the severity of your task. This is the moment for which you were created, and to which God saved you. He has endowed you with unique gifts. Use them now with absolute surety that it is His will for Francia, and for His Kingdom.
Soli Deo gloria,
- Isidore
- Eivor: If I attack openly, they could kill the queen. I need to find a way to get close to her without raising suspicion.
Opening the door, Eivor went inside Little Mother's sanctum, where Euphrasia basked in her glory of her duty to "deliver" the queen.
- Euphrasia: We have the queen herself! Who would have thought we could reach her so soon? Where is my assistant? I cannot begin without my knife.
- Richardis: This is not the work of God. You know the scriptures, Euphrasia. Where do they instruct you to do such things?
- Euphrasia: My instruction comes from God, as you will soon see.
- Eivor: That is the queen, and she's being held by Little Mother. Those are her elite guards. Best not to try to take them head on. Maybe I can find a way to distract them. If I open the cage in the other room, the guards might leave to investigate.
Eivor looked at a trapped man.
- Eivor: Please, get me out of here! They will kill me!
Eivor tried to help but the door was locked. Eivor looked around and saw a guard had the key.
- Eivor: Those guards have the key to the cage. Opening it would cause a distraction.
Eivor collected the key and went to free the prisoner.
- Eivor: Get out quickly, before we're discovered.
- French Man 3: Thank God, I could not take any more! I was going to leave my wife, now she is the only person I want to see!
- Euphrasia: What was that? Guards, check the cage.
- Eivor: I should not be seen.
Eivor left the area around the cage as Euphrasia sent her guards to investigate.
- French Soldier 10: Check the cage! Find the prisoner.
- Euphrasia: When my assistant returns with my knife your deliverance will begin. You should know, your Majesty, I am only God's instrument.
- Richardis: Is your knife God's instrument too?
- Euphrasia: I can tell you the devils fear it. How they scream at its touch! Is that the devil's fear I see in your eyes now?
- Richardis: You mistake faith for fear. You are lost, Euphrasia.
Eivor interacted with her placement.
- Eivor may have also interacted with the placement with the guards in attendance.
- Euphrasia: Ah, here is my assistant with my knife. We can begin. I am Little Mother, touched by Saint Taurinus, chosen by God.
Little Mother looked to the queen.
- Euphrasia: You are just another royal broodmare mated to a king she doesn't love. In your bitterness, you turn him against God. You see, Your Majesty, you can hide nothing from a true servant of God.
- Richardis: God himself knows I do not try.
- Euphrasia: That is a lie. You speak for the devil now, do you know that? But we will cut him right out of you. Then we will get to the truth, you and God and I. Put your faith in that. Assistant, my knife.
Euphrasia held her hand out for the knife.
Eivor took the dagger and stabbed Little Mother in her left eye.
- Euphrasia: God! Saint Taurinus! Save me!
Little Mother noticed her assistant's actual appearance.
- Euphrasia: Who are you! Guards! To me!
Eivor attacked Little Mother and her guards, initially. Little Mother fought with her own dagger, but Eivor defeated her and her guards.
Eivor released Richardis, who knelt by Euphrasia's corpse and delivered her last rites, quoting a passage from the Book of Jeremiah.
- Richardis: "I will surely deliver thee ... because thou hast put thy trust in me." I am sorry she had to die. She was not always like this, and too young for such bitterness. Your methods are uncompromising, but your coming was God's doing. You are a Northerner, aren't you?
- Eivor: I am Eivor of the Raven Clan, and I'm not here because of any god. I am here because your husband, the king, sent me.
- Richardis: Charles sent you for me?
- Eivor: There is no time. We have to find a way out before we are discovered.
- Richardis: I know a way. Follow me.
Eivor followed Richardis.
- Richardis: I did not thank you for rescuing me. It was a brave thing to do.
- Eivor: It was not bravery. I am only here because I have an agreement with Charles to return you to him.
Richardis and Eivor stopped as rats blocked the way.
- Eivor: Rats!
- Richardis: The plague brought them. The vermin have no shortage of food here.
Eivor dealt with the rats as Richardis led Eivor to the exit, but it was blocked.
- Richardis: We are blocked in.
- Eivor: The wall is weak.
Eivor broke through the breakable wall and both her and Richardis left into the village of Aquila.
- Richardis: You have been used by God today, do not doubt it. But I have to go now. There is somewhere I must be.
- Eivor: It was not your God who freed you, it was me. And I did it only to return you to your husband. That is where we're going.
- Richardis: You think because you did something, it was not God? God used a donkey once. He can use anyone. Even you.
- Eivor: Nevertheless, I am taking you to Charles.
- Richardis: It is not me Charles wants. I can trust you. I know it. I perceive God working something strange through you. I will show you what Charles seeks.
- Eivor: You could be trying to deceive me.
- Richardis: Yes, I suppose I could. But I am not. Do you really not see the strangeness in all this, that it must be God?
- Eivor: I see only that your God makes it so you can never be wrong.
- Richardis: I like you, Eivor. I can see why God chose you, and why we should be friends. We will go together.
Eivor followed Richardis to the next destination.
Outcome[]
Eivor assassinated Euphrasia and saved Queen Richardis, who mentioned the real reason Charles wanted her and convinced Eivor to come with her.
