Sibrand is one of the nine targets Al Mualim orders Altair to assassinate. Sibrand is the newly appointed Master of the Knights Teutonic, in charge of the port area of the Middle District within the city of Acre.

Sibrand had become paranoid after the deaths of his Templar "brothers", and feel that his is approaching with the Assassin. This can be seen during one of the eavesdropping investigations: as two soldiers are speaking about Sibrand's attitude, he walks up and suspects them of plotting against him. Then, he berates them for not working and charges them to double all the patrols.

 +
As he was incapable of securing his position, Sibrand became plagued by paranoia of conspiracies and plots against him, so much so that he unnecessarily doubled the patrols, and even threatened to pull knights from battle to protect him.
After completing enough investigations, Altair attends a disturbance within the docks as one with the crowd: Sibrand has accused a scholar of being an assassin, poisoned by fear. After further accusations he kills the innocent man. He then positions himself defensively on a ship he intends to sail on. Unknowingly setting the stage for a difficult but not impossible assassination strike on his life, Altair maneuvers above the water safely while slowly approaching his intended target unnoticed. Finally reaching the ship, Altair assassinates the mad man shouting towards the city and shooting arrows at nowhere.

With his dying words, Sibrand explains his part in the Templars' scheme: he had commandeered every ship in Acre with the intent of establishing a blockade around the port, preventing Richard and other European monarchs from sending more troops to the Holy Land and thus making it easier for the Templars to destroy their enemies there and seize control of the kingdom.
+
He remained consistently vigilant, searching for signs of trouble. He took control of the docks in the city of Acre, where he also acquired the services of many ships. He planned to use these vessels to form a blockade that would prevent the "fool" kings and queens from sending aid once the Templars initiated their plan to usurp control of the Holy Land.

Sibrand joined the Templars around this time, and was one of the men that guarded the Apple of Eden's secrets and capabilities.

Having locked himself away in Acre's docks, Sibrand waited to perform his role in the "liberation" of the Holy Land. He patrolled the district, scolding two guards he came across, and threatening to double their shifts if they would not get back to their posts. Unknown to him, the Assassin Altaïr eavesdropped on him, to prepare for his assassination.

 +
Sibrand then moved to the docks themselves and, remembering the white-robed Assassin that had been hunting his brothers, began to publicly abuse and torment a scholar, who was clothed similarly to the Assassins. After taunting and eventually killing the scholar, Sibrand warned the citizens not to aid the Assassins.

 +
Sibrand then donned his horned helmet, and set off for his personal ship, prompting Altaïr to follow. Unfortunately, one of Sibrand's sentries spotted him and though he managed to kill him with a throwing knife before he could raise the alarm, the sentry's body fell into the water with a loud splash, alerting Sibrand.

Seeing the power of the Piece of Eden, it destroyed his belief in God and as such he has become greatly fearful of death, knowing that this life is all he has. He explains this belief to Altair as he dies and seems certain, much as Abstergo is in the future, that there is no God of any kind.

 +
In his manic refusal to be killed, the Templar began wildly firing arrows in every direction, shooting down birds in the process, all the while shouting loudly that he would take care of the Assassins himself if no one else would. Altaïr stealthily climbed aboard the ship as he did, and put an end to Sibrand's life.
Sibrand's experiences, along with the public assassinations of his comrades in Acre, Garnier and William, have made him extremely paranoid and he sees enemies everywhere, which has lead to him doubling all the patrols in the Middle District (even threatening to withdraw the entire Teutonic Order from the field to defend him) as well as cowering deep within the docks out of fear that the assassins approach from anywhere, except surrounded by water, or so he thinks. He is quick to deal with supposed "traitors". At the time of his death in which Altair is sent to assassinate Sibrand, he is extremely fearful of the Assassins and distrustful of anyone wearing similar robes or attire of any kind, especially Scholars. When sneaking up to his boat, it is easy to hear him screaming "Fine! None of you will lift a hand in defense of your master, I'll take care of this heathen myself!".

With his last breath, Sibrand explained the role assigned to him by the Brotherhood, and claimed that he had proof that nothing waited for him after his life. Having told the Assassin all he knew, Sibrand perished.

At the time he was appointed as the Grand Master of the Teutonics, Sibrand was a fierce man, who never failed to strike fear into the crowds. He was both a skilled swordsman and archer, making him a dangerous opponent. However, as he witnessed more of his Templar brothers dying, he became paranoid and cowardly.

 +
His paranoia became such a burden to him that he doubled the patrols in his district, killed men simply for wearing clothes that were similar to the Assassins' garments and wildly shot arrows at birds, believing they were spies and a form of communication for the Assassins. Sibrand always kept a keen eye on the crowds surrounding him, always expecting his murderer to emerge from them.

*It is possible to throw Sibrand into the water, though doing so caused desynchronization.

*A glitch may occur, during which Sibrand may not be wearing the helmet he put on after killing the scholar.
*An in-game glitch can be found during Sibrand's assassination. To perform it, Sibrand must not be aware of your presence. When he is randomly shooting arrows on the front of his ship, approach and throw him into the sides of the boat. Sibrand will fall off his ship and into the water. You will then fail the mission (The game says that he has escaped). One of the reasons of failure for this mission is that his blood is required to complete the assassination and Altair cannot swim in-game. Or maybe Sibrand could swim (no proof as of yet and unlikely). This is unlikely as when assassinating William if you have him chase you to the upper walls of citadel it is possible to climb on top of the wall (he will as well) and push him off into the sea below; the same message will appear saying he has escaped because Altair cannot follow him down the cliff.

 +
*Historically, Sibrand is considered to be the founder of the hospital in Acre which would one day give rise to the Teutonic Knights, but not a member of the order itself. For this reason, he is sometimes called the "first grand master" of the order, even if it was only given recognition in 1192, and transformed into a military order in 1198
*There is also another "glitch" with this assassination. When Sibrand is at the front of the ship shooting his arrows and shouting, he is sometimes not wearing his helmet (which you clearly see him put on at the end of the starting cut-scene).

 +
*Like Talal in Jerusalem, and Jubair al Hakim in Damascus, vigilantes will attempt to stop Sibrand if he tries to escape from the docks.
*Sibrand is also the only target in Assassin's Creed that you can see during an investigation.

 +
*In the non-canonical mobile version of Assassin's Creed, Sibrand is the very first assassination target; he is air assassinated by Altaïr while presiding over an execution at the gallows, similar to the official trailer for the console version. Unlike in the console version, his assassination takes place in 1189 instead of 1191.
