The Shrines of the Valkyries were Isu shrines scattered across England. The shrines had cores of adamant and were created to augment and increase the illusionary power of Freya's medallion.
History[]
In 883, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan visited three such shrines in Mercia and activated combat training simulations with Freya's medallion, a gift from Ravensthorpe's new resident, Hildiran. After completing the three simulations for each shrine, Eivor returned to Ravensthorpe and met with Hildiran to discuss her finished challenges.[1]
After some time, Eivor met with Hildiran at Dunwic, where they discovered a locked door underneath the castle when the Odin's Eye indicated something was kept behind it. Hildiran commissioned Eivor to train once more with other shrines found in Northumbria and Wessex. Traveling across England, Eivor found these shrines and activated their simulations. After successfully completing their objectives, she returned to the locked door and opened it with the medallion. There, she found another shrine and a set of armor, only for Hildiran to suddenly knock her unconscious from behind.[2]
Waking up, Eivor saw Hildiran don the armor and challenged the elderly woman in fight to the death in Hugrheim. Eivor proved victorious against Hildiran, who admitted defeat and revealed her lineage and the task of vengeance from her ancestor Hildr against Odin and whatever form he had taken following the Great Catastrophe. Believing that Eivor was wiser than her family's blood-rival, Hildiran offered her loyalty and aid, which Eivor accepted before Hildiran left feeling complete in her family's task.[2]
