Map of 10th-century Scandinavia
Scandinavia is a subregion in Northern Europe. The sovereign states of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden make up the region, each sharing strong historical, cultural, and linguistic ties. During the Isu Era, Scandinavia was ruled by the Æsir, who were later revered as gods by the Germanic tribes.[1]
Since at least the 9th century, the region was home to a number of proto-Assassins and proto-Templars.[2] Some of these hailed from the local Viking population, with the Raven Clan of Fornburg, Norway, notably becoming allied with the Hidden Ones Basim Ibn Ishaq and Hytham and helping them in their conflict against the Order of the Ancients.[1]
By the 10th century, the Hidden Ones and the Templar Order had both established footholds in Scandinavia. While the former were allied with King Eric the Victorious of Sweden, the latter recruited King Harald Bluetooth of Denmark and Norway. Around 985, Eric's army battled the forces of the king's nephew Styrbjörn the Strong, who sought to overthrow his uncle and allied himself with Harald. Thanks to the efforts of the Hidden One Thorvald Hjaltason and the warrior Östen Jorundsson, Styrbjörn's army was ultimately defeated at the Battle of Fýrisvellir.[2]
