Safiya El-Nadi was a member of the Egyptian Brotherhood of Assassins who operated in Cairo in the mid-19th century, alongside her husband Gamal Sabry.[1]
Biography[]
Safiya and Gamal housed the British Assassin Pierrette Arnaud during her time in Cairo, eventually considering her part of the family.[2] On 1 November 1869, while on a joint mission with Pierrette, her comrade felt them both being followed and signaled for them to change course, moving to the rooftops opposite a street where Gamal had set up his book cart. Noticing Pierette's unease, Safiya asked if she wanted to go through the plan for that night's mission again, speaking in Pierrette's native French rather than the Arabic she usually spoke to help her practice. While going through the plan, Gamal gave them a sign they were being eavesdropped on and Safiya went to deal with the threat, a Templar lackey, as Gamal created a diversion.[1] Safiya and Pierrette hid the spy's body and once night fell, Gamal and Safiya used the book cart to take the body to a nearby necropolis while Pierrette went to the Khedivial Opera House for her mission.[3]
In the early hours of the following day, the trio went back to the opera house to dispose of the body of Pierrette's target before returning to their house and discussing the modified cane Hawkins had rigged to explode and kill Khedive Ismail Pasha. The trio went to inform councilmember Amira Benyamina who, noting that even some Templars would hesitate to bomb an opera house full of people, decided to get more information on Hawkins, while tasking the trio with investigating the railroad he had built leading to seemingly nowhere.[2]
Searching for the Ankh[]
Venturing with Gamal and Pierrette, Safiya traveled along the railroad with Amira's camels and found themselves near the end of the incomplete railroad. While she took first watch at night, all three were met by the British Assassin Simeon Price,[4] who tracked Armen Kazan after finding trace of the Ankh from Russia. Together, they enter into a nearby cave and went to locate the group of Templars. However, they came across statues of Set, Osiris, Isis, and Horus while Gamal described the story between the gods. However, they watched Pierrette overreact to the story as she left them behind.[5]
Fortunately, Safiya regrouped with Gamal and Simeon and found the remaining Templars activating the Ankh and Pierrette captured.[6] Within their fight, Safiya freed Pierrette from her restraints while Gamal and Simeon try to chase down the Austrian Templar Art Hennighan, a newly-resurrected horse, and the Ankh. Meanwhile, Safiya traveled with an injured Pierrette back to Cairo while Gamal and Simeon surveyed the land for any more Templars.[7] Meeting with Amira, Safiya informed her about Kazan's death while taking care of Pierrette and her injuries.[8]
Working with Pierrette[]
While Pierrette ventured to London, Safiya and her fellow Assassins went back to the cave and took back all of the pictures from there before the Templars could utilize them again.[9] After more than a decade, she and Gamal visit a sullen Pierrette at Crabbet Farm as they discussed how Arnaud saved Queen Victoria. Together, they discussed about the new "Pegasi" breed being a result from the Ankh's resurrecting the dead horse but were interrupted by news of Alexandria being bombed by England.[10]
