ACRPG - Ring of Sand

The Ring of Sand

The Ring of Sand was one of the three Rings of Seth, a set of Rings of Eden said to have been bestowed by the Isu Seth to his champions. Like the other two rings, the Ring of Sand is directly connected to the Staff of Seth, which is able to control those who use the ring.[1] The Ring of Sand specialized in illusions,[2] while also making it seem as if the wearer has been transformed into a mummy.[3]

History[]

Discovery in Egypt[]

In 1923, laborers hired by the British archaeologist Howard Carter at the Tomb of Tutankhamun dig site uncovered a secondary tunnel leading to an new network of chambers and passageways. In one of the chambers, they located a solitary sarcophagus that housed the Ring of Sand. The Templars, led by Carter's financial backer Lord Carnarvon, swiftly mobilized to seize control of the site. When the Templars attempt an incursion to the chamber, they were attacked by a living mummy wielding a golden khopesh. The mummy, in reality someone using the Ring, controlled a veritable menagerie: skeletons armed with rusty weapons, colossal snakes, swarms of carnivorous scarabs, sand ghosts, and zombie hyenas, all of which obeyed their command. After the mummy noticed a group of Assassins had also infiltrated the site, they, too, became targets, though they managed to defeat the mummy. When a panicked Templar agent threw a grenade at the corpse, the detonation triggered a chain reaction that caused the underground complex to start collapsing, though the Assassins managed to emerge just before they would have been trapped inside.[3]

The ring and the sarcophagus that contained it were acquired by the Egyptian Museum and were grouped with Tutankhamun's latest collection of relics. Though reportedly unearthed in a 1932 excavation, no records could be located regarding their provenance, making it plausible that the discovery was made in the 1920s. Also lacking in any records was information about the site where the sarcophagus came from.[3]

Zixuan Long's plot and recovery by the Assassins[]

In 2016, the ring, along with a few other items from Tutankhamun's collection, was loaned to the British Museum.[3] While the ring was displayed in London, an Assassin cell was forced to kill a woman who had been transformed into a vampire and controlled by the Abstergo Industries archaeologist Dr. Zixuan Long into stealing the ring.[4] After recovering this artifact, the Assassins took the three Rings of Seth to the Isu Vault beneath the Valley of the Kings, preparing to stop Dr. Long's schemes and prevent him from reaching where he thought Apophis rested. After their confrontation, Seth took over Dr. Long's body and spoke to the Assassins by transmitting his voice through the rings.[2]
