Quarry Quandary was a virtual representation of one of Kassandra's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
At the request of her mother Myrrine, Kassandra travelled to Paros Island to find out what had happened to her missing admiral Euneas.
Dialogue[]
Kassandra returned to the Adrestia to set sail for Paros Island, in order to find Euneas. Barnabas asked her how her reunion went.
- Barnabas: And? What happened on Naxos? Did you find your mother?
- Kassandra: I found her, Barnabas.
- Barnabas: Wonderful! Maybe now we can kick back and relax—
- Kassandra: But I have bad news. We know the Cult of Kosmos poisons everything they touch, but now even Sparta is in their grasp.
- Kassandra: They'll have everyone fighting like dogs until the world is back to the dark ages. I have to stop them.
- Barnabas: Then that's where we'll sail to next!
- Kassandra: I'm glad you're with me.
Docking on the east shore of Paros island, Kassandra saw the shattered remains of Euneas' ship beached nearby. A single Spartan soldier barely clung to life.
- Kassandra: You're the only survivor?
- Soldier: They took prisoners. I was too far gone to carry back to Paros.
- Kassandra: What happened?
- Soldier: We came to talk peace with Paros... They ambushed us.
- Kassandra: What of your captain, Euneas?
- Soldier: ...Took him.
(If players asked "Where is he?")
- Kassandra: If Paros has him, where would he be?
- Soldier: They joked about tying him up atop the quarry and letting the sun soften him up.
(If players asked "Why not just kill him?")
- Kassandra: Why keep him alive?
- Soldier: Leverage... They know he's important to Phoenix.
(Leave – "I'll go now.")
- Kassandra: I'll get him.
- Soldier: Make them pay.
The soldier breathed his last. Kassandra gave him a moment of silence, then proceeded to the quarry at the heart of the island. With the help of Ikaros, she found Euneas.
- Kassandra: There's Euneas. He's in bad shape.
She infiltrated the quarry and overheard two guards talking about the admiral.
- Thug 1: Have they finished with Euneas yet?
- Thug 2: No, the old dog is still breathing.
- Thug 1: Only a matter of time until the boss or the heat breaks him.
- Thug 2: He'll never betray Naxos. The boss is wasting his time.
Kassandra reached the top of the quarry and released Euneas from his cage.
- Kassandra: You're a hard man to kill.
- Euneas: I knew she wouldn't abandon me. Quick, let's get out of here.
Kassandra escorted Euneas out of the quarry to the safety of the eastern woods.
- Euneas: Thank you, misthios. I hope Phoenix pays you well for this.
- Kassandra: Remind her for me.
- Euneas: Something's wrong with Paros—more than usual. Strange things are afoot.
Euneas took his leave and made his own way back to Naxos.
Outcome[]
Kassandra rescued Euneas. Afterwards, the admiral returned to Naxos to inform Myrrine what he had found.
Trivia[]
- Euneas can be killed by the Athenian guards, thus failing the quest.
- Euneas is a much better free-runner than most 'following' NPCs, but there are still limits to what he can climb and how high he can jump down from.
- If trying to jump across the wooden posts lining the middle level of the quarry, he may try to follow but become stuck on a small outcropping just below the posts where the rock wall bends west, with no way to become dislodged or climb off. If the player saves and reloads outside the quarry, this should reset his position and allow him to follow once again.
