Pasherenptah (90 BCE – 41 BCE) was a high priest in Memphis during the reign of Pharaoh Ptolemy XIII, and one of the first members of the Hidden Ones, the organization that would later transform into the Assassin Brotherhood.

Biography

Early life

During the 1st century BCE, Pasherenptah served as the High Priest of Ptah in Memphis. He met and married Taimhotep, the daughter of a noble family in the city. For many years, Pasherenptah and Taimhotep had hopes of having children to carry on their traditions and inherit the position.

Trouble in Memphis

Around 48 BCE, it seemed like Pasherenptah's own house was not immune to ills and ailments that seemed to plague the city, for Taimhotep suffered various miscarriages, leading her to fear it would affect Pasherenptah's reputation. All this led Pasherenptah to seek the aid of the Pharaoh Cleopatra and her follower Apollodorus.[1]

In 48 BCE, Pasherenptah met with Apollodorus and Cleopatra in the former's estate in Kanopos Nome, where he was introduced to Aya of Alexandria and her husband, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa. There, they learned about the Order of the Ancients, an organization with power over various regions of Egypt. Pasherenptah explained that one of the members, the Lizard, had been consolidating power in Memphis, such that even the Apis Bull was affected. Pasherenptah and the group sought Bayek's help to eliminate the Order, which he accepted.[1]

Sometime later, Bayek reached Memphis, and sought out Pasherenptah, only to have the priest confide in him on how bad things were. In order to help him, and Memphis, Bayek investigated various apparently unrelated incidences, discovering that they all had The Lizard at their root.[2]

Having discovered the Lizard's identity, a priest of Anubis named Hetepi, Bayek met with Pasherenptah and the Queen Cleopatra at the Palace of Apries. They agreed for Bayek to kill Hetepi, and Pasherenptah blessed him.[3]

Pashereptah with the others at the tavern

After Cleopatra ascended the throne as the sole pharaoh of Egypt, allying herself with Julius Caesar and seemingly with Flavius Metellus and Lucius Septimius, who were both members of the Order of the Ancients, Pasherenptah met with Aya and Bayek and others in a tavern in Alexandria. Expressing their disgust with Cleopatra's alignment, they agreed to form an organization and combat against the Order of the Ancients and preserve the free will of the people.[4]

Trivia

  • Historically Pasherenptah had five children, a daughter from a relationship prior to his marriage to Taimhotep, three daughters born early in their marriage, and a son born in 46 BCE after praying to Imhotep, the deified archetict of Djoser's Pyramid.
