- "Mayday, mayday...! This is a distress call from the Medan! Our vessel is shipwrecked. The captain and the entire crew are dead, their bodies scattered all over the chart room and the bridge. They're all dead. Every last one of them. And before long... I will join them."

The SS Ourang Medan was a ship used by Abstergo Industries during their early years after the company's founding.
History[]
In the 1940s, the Ourang Medan was deployed to the sea near the Strait of Malacca in an attempt to recover a crescent-shaped Piece of Eden that had been hidden there. The mission ended in failure and the vessel became a shipwreck, with the artifact remaining there.[1] Stories later emerged about the circumstances surrounding the ship's disappearance until the tales became urban legend.[2]
In 2023, an Abstergo team led by Shimazu Sei re-discovered the amulet's location within the Medan's shipwreck through the genetic memories of Edward Kenway relived by his descendant, Noa Kim.[1] With a diving bell ship sent by Sei's superiors, Noa and Sei's bodyguard Yuki dived down to the shipwreck to retrieve the artifact. However, the pair were quickly separated and Noa stumbled upon a nest of moray eels that attacked him.[3]
After escaping from the eels, Noa found a room filled with the skeletons of the deceased crew members, as well as the amulet. However, as the touched the artifact, its powers, combined with the Bleeding Effect that Noa was suffering from, caused him to experience hallucinations of Edward's memories. Most notably, he spoke with an apparition of Bartholomew Roberts, who initially taunted Noa, but after realizing he could temporarily resist the amulet's effects, encouraged him to continue his quest for answers.[4]
Awakening from his visions, Noa took the amulet and reunited with Yuki before the pair decided to return to their ship as they were running low on oxygen. While swimming back to the diving bell, a shark attacked them but Noa used the amulet's powers to repel it, allowing him and Yuki to enter the diving bell and return to the surface safely.[5]
