Orphnaeus

Orphnaeus was the immortal mount of the Isu who was revered as the Greek god Hades. Orphnaeus drew Hades' chariot alongside Aethon, Nycteus and Alastor.

Biography

At some point during the Peloponnesian War, Orphnaeus was discovered in Elysium and not his home-realm of the underworld. Persephone tasked Kassandra, a living human, to retrieve the beast. Kassandra eventually found him not too far away in the Asphodel Arboretum with a man named Mulios, who had nicknamed the beast 'Orphie'.[1]

Trivia

  • The name of the steed is derived from the Greek word ὄρφνη (órphnē), meaning 'darkness'.
  • The names of Hades' mounts are taken from the Roman poet Claudius Claudianus' work The Rape of Proserpine.
  • The player has four choices on what to do with Orphnaeus;
    • Let Mulios keep him
    • Kassandra keeps him
    • Give to Adonis and his rebellion
    • Give to Persephone
