Of Fist-Dances and Sweaty Oaths was a virtual representation of one of Eivor Varinsdottir's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
Eivor encountered a bulky man standing outside a small building and investigated.
Dialogue[]
Eivor found a small graveyard and mausoleum with a large man standing guard at the mausoleum doors. She approached and spoke to him.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Hold right there, you speedy hare. No entry to you past this point without a password to annoint.
- Eivor: What is this place?
- Anglo-Saxon Man: A den for those who answer the call of a slick and slippery midnight brawl!
To compete, a phrase that must be spoken, but it seems you don't yet have this token.
Worry not, young pup, and look around, if memory serves, there's a clue to be found.
Eivor left the man at the door to look for the clue. In a tree stand around the back of the building, she found a note pinned to the tree trunk with a knife.
- Password
I eavesdropped and think I heard right.
Naked fists and walleyed lisps.
This is the phrase that must be spoken to gain entry to the BBB.
Eivor returned to the man. He repeated his initial verse, asking for the password.
- Eivor: Stand aside and let me in, or I'll have no qualms wiping clean that grin.
You'll be less pale, more black and blue, and none shall care for the likes of you. - Anglo-Saxon Man: O God, a poet, just like me. Yes! Yes! Your entry will be free.
Now ball your fists and step right in, there's fun to be had and bone broken!
Enter, enter, take your shot. But, careful! Don't get beat to snot.
The mausoleum doors open and Eivor and the man descended into a room full of fighters.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Are you ready?
- Eivor: Ready.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Splendid! And now for your opponent... Let's see if you don't take a fall against the one they call The Wall, Edward of Lincoln
Eivor fought and defeated the opponent.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Watching you rub bodies was an absolute treat. You move just like a noodle, my favorite thing to eat.
I would please me to no end to watch you fight again. So whenever, now, or then, return promptly to my den.
Eivor spoke to the man again.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Ah, back again, hm? Ready for more?
- Eivor: Ready.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Splendid! And now for your opponent... There may be shared blood in your veins against this rapid-firing Dane, Bolla of Cent.
Eivor fought and defeated the second opponent. She returned later and spoke to the man again.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Ah, back again, hm? Ready for more?
- Eivor: Ready.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Splendid! And now for your opponent... I think it's time your head got stung, for none remain but the silver tongue. One on one, you'll fight with me, champion of the BBB.
Eivor fought and defeated the champion.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: I've never been in such a fight, you walloped me with all your might.
It seems to me you've proven to be champion of the BBB. - Eivor: I am honored, I think.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Go on now, carry our name, with only pride and never shame! Remember how it was you came to be blessed with so much fame! Farewell!
Before leaving, Eivor found a note on one of the tables.
- BBB Member's Note
I love it here. Rolling around with these lads makes me feel right at home. A good sense of belonging. Companionship.
Do we beat each other until our heads ring? Yes. Do I now have less teeth than fingers? Also, yes. But each brawl, sweaty and agonizing as it may be, always ends with kindness. A hug. A pat on the back. A headbutt. There is nowhere else I would rather be.
Eivor spoke to the man once again at the mausoleum door.
- Anglo-Saxon Man: Not a brawler remains who dares suffer these pains. You are the winner, the victor, you see, champion of the BBB.
Outcome[]
Eivor defeated all men in the fight club and earned her rank as best fighter.
Behind the scenes[]
As is the case with many fistfight events in the game, Eivor loses when her health gets to near zero, rather than when it is fully depleted. On higher difficulty settings, where both the enemy's damage is multiplied and their level is scaled to match or exceed Eivor's level, this means even the most basic strikes are able to reduce Eivor's health from full to the "lose" threshold with a single hit.
Fighting with bare fists counts as having the player's "off-hand free" in the game's logic. This allows the benefits of skills dependent on a free off-hand, e.g. Single-Hand Defense and Riposte, to be conferred during fistfights.
