Nycollaao de Castel Branco (died 1582), also known as The Slaver, was a Portuguese slaver and a member of a Tamba silver-smuggling ring during the 16th century.
Biography[]
By 1582, Nycollaao de Castel Branco joined a silver-smuggling operation under the leader Mai. Operating as a slaver, Nycollaao de Castel Branco worked to sell anyone and anything for a profit and provided slaves as test subjects for his cohorts' teppō demonstrations. His business also allowed him to sell abducted peasants as slaves back to his homeland.[1]
Nevertheless, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke met with Lord Hosokawa Fujitaka, who tasked them to dismantle the silver-smuggling operation. Following a clue from Shinji's personal effects, they discovered de Castel Branco to be in Wakasa near Sotomo Gate.[1]
Naoe and Yasuke soon infiltrated Tsuruga Sea Port and found a note to de Castel Branco's men dictating that he will leave on his ship with his slaves due to the warehouse's holds being full. Off the port's coast, they traveled to de Castel Branco's ship and assassinated Nycollaao. They then recovered a teppō, Nanban's Curse, and an invitation from Takeru at Genbao Fort from de Castel Branco's personal effects.[1]
