"If Edward Kenway's memories have taught me anything, it's this. Nothing is true, everything is permitted. I can't change the past any more than I can avoid it. But that doesn't mean it needs to tie me down either! If there's one way to fill the emptiness in my heart, it's to own up to my past... and make my own choice as to what I'm going to do with my life!"
―Noa Kim, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

Noa Kim (Korean: 김노아; born 1990s) is a Korean-American college student and a descendant of a number of prominent Assassins, including Edward Kenway, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore, and Ratonhnhaké:ton.[1] He is additionally a descendant of the Joseon scholar Yun Pyeong-Gyu.[2]

In 2023, Noa was kidnapped by the Templar company Abstergo Industries, who were interested in his genetic memories due to his Assassin heritage and lured him to Macau, China, on the pretense of a vacation prize trip. Following his abduction, Noa was forced to relive Edward Kenway's memories in the Animus under the supervision of Doctor Shimazu Sei, with whom he soon struck a deal, being given some degree of freedom to act as he pleased in exchange for his cooperation.

While Abstergo sought to use Edward's memories to locate a set of three Pieces of Eden, Noa had his own motives to experience his ancestor's life. Having been abandoned by his father in his childhood, Noa wished to learn about his family roots in the hopes of finding his own place in the world. By reliving Edward's memories, Noa became familiar with the Assassin ideology, which he found appealing, and hoped to become more like his ancestor.

Eventually, Edward's memories revealed the location of an artifact – a crescent amulet – in the Strait of Malacca, and Noa was sent to recover it due to his high resistance to the Pieces of Eden's powers. Although successful in his mission, the amulet's corrupting influence began affecting Noa. To save his life, Sei struck an alliance with the Assassin Nathan Zhang, who helped her, Noa, and Sei's bodyguard Yuki escape from Abstergo so that they could find another Piece of Eden to cure Noa.

After successfully recovering the second artifact from the Shwedagon Pagoda, which healed Noa, the group found themselves being hunted by Abstergo. Thanks to Yuki and Sei sacrificing themselves to buy them time to escape, resulting in the former's death and the latter's capture, Noa and Nathan were able to flee Yangon and meet with a group of Assassins sent by the latter's sister Claire Zhang, who brought them to the Zhawang Corporation's headquarters in Jakarta.

After an alliance between the Corporation, the Assassins, and DedSec was formed to fight against Abstergo, Noa and his allies traveled to Osaka to rescue Sei from the Templars' captivity. Successful in their mission, they returned to Jakarta, where Noa continued to explore Edward's memories in search of the "Forgotten Temple" that could unlock the Pieces of Eden's full potential, hoping to find it before Abstergo.

ACFT - Noa's childhood

Noa fighting back bullies in his school years

Noa was born in South Korea to an American Assassin father and a Korean mother. Around the year 2000,[3] when Noa was still young, his father mysteriously vanished. Returning home one night, Noa found his mother crying and asked her where his father had gone, to which she simply replied that he would not be coming back. Believing his father had abandoned the family, Noa vowed to never become anything like him.[4]

In his youth, Noa was frequently teased or bullied by his schoolmates due to his mixed race, which increased his resentment towards his father, blaming him for being different from his peers and unable to fit in.[4] This feeling of not fitting in continued well into Noa's adulthood and he sought to find his place in the world.[5]

After getting into college, Noa was forced to work a number of part-time jobs to pay for his tuition. Sometimes he had to take time off school in order to work, as the money he was earning was barely enough to cover his tuition and living expenses. Despite this, he always hoped that he would one day get the chance to travel overseas.[6]

Abduction by Abstergo[]

ACFT - Noa Kim kidnapped by Abstergo agents

Noa kidnapped by Abstergo agents

In 2023, after using the genetic genealogy site WhyYou developed by the Abstergo Genetic Research Lab, Noa was lured on a vacation prize trip to Macau, China. There, he was kidnapped by Abstergo agents and brought to their research vessel, the Exitus, where he was forced to relieve the memories of his ancestor Edward Kenway during his time in Southeast Asia.[7]

During his first session in the Animus, he caused several synchronization errors due to being unaware that the events he was witnessing were someone else's memories. The first major one occurred when Noa heard the story of Hendrik, who had left his family to pursue riches, which reminded Noa of his own father's abandonment. However, the Animus managed to resynchronize by bypassing factual information and the simulation continued.[8]

During the second desynchronization error, which occurred when Noa tried to warn the villagers Edward had been hiding with about cholera, the Animus reacted more violently and electrocuted Noa, causing his heart rate and adrenaline levels to spike. Doctor Shimazu Sei attempted to warn Noa, but due to his stubbornness, she and her team were eventually forced to end the session.[4]

A deal with the Templars[]

Sei: "The Animus isn't some VR game. All it does is recreate the memories of people who existed in the real world. So there's no point in doing anything that goes against the actual flow of history. It simply won't have any effect. If you keep causing errors like that..."
Noa: "Shut up! Don't tell me what to do!"
—Noa refusing to be told what to do by Shimazu Sei, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

Noa was taken to another room where Abstergo doctors managed to stabilize his condition. Awakening some time later, he recalled Edward's memories and assumed he had been playing a VR game until Sei entered the room and informed him of the truth. After telling Noa about the Animus and Edward, including the latter's role as a member of the Assassin Brotherhood, Sei revealed what she sought: information on a Piece of Eden that Edward had found in Southeast Asia.[4]

ACFT - Noa making a deal with Shimazu Sei

Noa making a deal with Sei

While Noa was processing all this information, Sei told him that Abstergo had made sure no one would search for him and that it was in his best interest to be cooperative. Enraged at being told what to do, Noa pulled Sei by her lab coat collar but was quickly subdued by Abstergo security. As he was being dragged away, Noa decided to offer Sei a deal.[4]

Admitting that he was also interested in viewing Edward's memories due to the similarities between the Assassin and his own father, Noa asked that he be given free rein to do what he wanted while in the Animus, as well as his freedom once he helped Sei acquire the information she sought.[9]

Though reluctant, Sei agreed to the terms, but reminded Noa of interfering with his ancestor's history. She pointed out that constant interference could make the subject experience the Bleeding Effect and may even have Noa forget his own memories. Choosing to ignore her advice, Noa returned to the Animus to continue reliving Edward's memories.[9]

Conversations with Shimazu Sei[]

"I thought you said the Assassins are a gang of ruthless criminals. And now you tell me he didn't kill a single enemy when he broke in there. He sounds awfully nice for a criminal, doesn't he?"
―Noa teasing Sei over her comments about Edward and the Assassins, c. 2023.[src]-[m]
ACFT - Noa inside the Animus

Noa talking with Sei from inside the Animus

Noa continued to converse with Sei during his time in the Animus, mainly on the topic of the Assassins and their actions. While Sei viewed them as self-righteous criminals that brought chaos wherever they went, Noa remained doubtful and wished to learn the truth by viewing Edward's memories.[10] When a later memory required Noa to remain synchronized by staying undetected and avoiding casualties, he pointed out that this did not match Sei's description of the Assassins, teasing her and jokingly saying that Edward seemed "awfully nice for a criminal."[11]

After completing a sequence of Edward's memories, Sei decided to deliver on her promise to teach Noa about the Assassins, and used the Animus to send him information about the most notorious of them: Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Noa then became determined to discover everything he could about his ancestors through the Animus and, thus, learn more about his roots.[12]

Upon the completion of the next set of Edward's memories, Noa found himself stuck in the Animus' loading screen, unable to progress. He asked Sei for help, to which the doctor proceeded to tease him over his previous stubbornness and refusal to be told what to do. She then brought up a journal that had belonged to a ceramic merchant in Macau who had encountered Edward, allowing Noa to use the information to synchronize with his ancestor's memories and progress to the next sequence. As he did so, he said that Sei could occasionally be helpful and addressed her by her first name, irritating the doctor.[13]

ACFT - Noa fighting Abstergo guards

A half-asleep Noa fighting off Abstergo guards

Later, Noa began showing signs of the Bleeding Effect, leading Sei to demand that he be removed from the Animus and taken to rest. As two guards grabbed him, Noa experienced a Bleeding Effect-induced hallucination and mistook the guards for ninja, attacking them. However, he fell asleep shortly afterwards and woke up back in his room, with Sei at his bedside.[14]

After the doctor explained the Bleeding Effect to him, Noa was excited by the prospect of becoming as strong as his ancestor. However, a furious Sei responded that she had seen people lose their minds due the Bleeding Effect and that she would not let that happen to Noa until she obtained the information she sought. Noa teased Sei for caring about him more than she let on, and deduced that her family was in trouble if she needed to rely so much on him. He then asked that he be taken to Macau, claiming to know where Edward had gone next, and Sei reluctantly accepted.[14]

Trip to the A-Ma Cultural Village[]

Noa: "Like it or not, if you people hadn't sent me here... I might have never set foot outside Korea in my life. Not that someone high and mighty like you could ever understand. I'll bet you've never had to bust your ass at a part-time job to pay your tuition, have you?"
Sei: "I guess not..."
—Noa criticizing Sei's wealthy upbringing, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

While waiting alone in his room, Noa was surprised by a Bleeding Effect-induced apparition of Edward, who attacked him. Noa briefly fought the apparition until it vanished, at which point Sei walked into the room. The doctor gave him a blindfold and a pair of headphones to put on, as he was not allowed to see the other areas of the Exitus.[6]

ACFT - Noa and Sei in the car

After they left the vessel, Noa began to complain that he would not get to enjoy his first vacation abroad, and Sei allowed him to take his blindfold and headphones off. The doctor then questioned why Noa had never traveled overseas before, to which he explained how he had never been able to afford it; something he was sure Sei could not understand given her wealthy upbringing. However, he was surprised to learn that Sei had dedicated her entire life to serving the Templars and her family, meaning she had no time for vacations.[6]

Once they arrived at the A-Ma Cultural Village in Macau, Noa told Sei that the information they sought was located inside the old Zhang residence. However, when Sei went to speak with the security guards, they denied her entrance, claiming that Abstergo's request to perform fieldwork in the area had been rejected. While a furious Sei called on her guards to try and force their way in, Noa noticed that he had developed Edward's Eagle Vision, which directed him to an alternative way into the building.[6]

Running away from the Abstergo guards, Noa circled the building and climbed a wall to lose his pursuers. He then used his Eagle Vision to find a secret entrance, which led to an office where Zhang had kept a ledger containing information on Edward's activities. Noa retrieved the ledger, but then heard the sound of gunshots outside and went to investigate.[6]

ACFT - Noa saving Sei

Noa and Sei surrounded by the dead Abstergo guards and the subdued thugs

Finding Sei and her Abstergo guards surrounded by armed thugs, Noa wanted to help, but was stopped by two men who claimed to have come to his rescue. Assuming the men to be Assassins, Noa refused to leave with them, stating he had unfinished business. In response, one of the men shot Noa with a tranquillizer, but he was unaffected. After a brief scuffle, Noa was eventually let go and rushed to Sei's aid, using all of Edward's skills he had developed as a result of the Bleeding Effect to dispatch the thugs.[15]

Upon returning to the Exitus, Noa thought about the Bleeding Effect's impact on his mind and whether, in time, he could succumb to it. At that moment, Sei arrived to retrieve him, as the information from the ledger recovered by Noa could be used to continue tracking Edward's memories. Before Noa went into the Animus, Sei thanked him for saving her and warned him not to lose himself until their transaction was complete, to which Noa smiled and vowed to help the doctor obtain what she was after.[15]

Later Animus sessions[]

Edward: "Catch me if you can, kid. I'll be waiting. Perhaps you really will find the answer you seek."
Noa: "All right, then. Wherever you went, I'll follow you till the very end. As long as it takes me to what I'm looking for..."
—Noa conversing with a hallucination of Edward, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

After witnessing Edward's foundation of the Zhang Wei Union and hearing the organization's motto – "We do not abandon our family" – Noa became surprised as he recalled that one of his would-be rescuers had told him the same statement.[15] Later, when he witnessed Edward recruit the Korean engineer Yun Pyeong-Gyu into his organization, Noa became excited as he realized that Yun was another one of his ancestors. Believing Noa wished to learn more about the man, Sei added an Animus database entry for Yun, containing details about his life.[2]

ACFT - Noa pranking Sei

Noa playing a prank on Sei

Sometime afterwards, Noa witnessed Edward recruit Shimazu Saito, a Japanese samurai and Sei's ancestor, into the Zhang Wei Union. When Saito revealed her perfect photographic memory, which helped the Union members in their quest to find Angkor, Noa quipped that he now understood where Sei had inherited her "Harvard-educated" brain from.[16]

Shortly after completing this memory, Noa was removed from the Animus as the machine was unable to track Edward's memories any futher. As Sei told Noa that he needed to find a clue about his ancestor's later activities, Noa seemingly succumbed to the Bleeding Effect, believing himself to be Edward and mistaking Sei for Saito.[17] A terrified Sei immediately told her team to initiate the breakdown protocol and tried to help Noa return to his senses, only for him to pin her against the wall.[5]

Suddenly however, Noa began to chuckle and revealed that he had played a prank. Sei was not amused and slapped Noa before returning him to his room, where she angrily reprimanded him for treating everything like a joke. Noa retorted that Abstergo had kidnapped him to use him as a guinea pig, so Sei had no right to get angry at him as she was just a criminal.[5]

ACFT - Noa and Edward

Noa "talking" with Edward in his room

After Sei left, Noa was approached by a hallucination of Edward and began to "converse" with him. Edward explained that he could not reveal the location of the Piece of Eden sought by Abstergo as he was just a fragment of Noa's genetic memories, but that he could take over Noa's body if he ever lost his willpower. The Assassin then asked Noa what he hoped to achieve by helping Abstergo, to which the latter claimed he had no other choice if he wished to live.[5]

After Edward pointed out that Noa did not seem to care much about life and that he had been offered a chance at freedom but refused to take it, Noa admitted that he admired Edward's freedom and hoped that his memories could help discover himself. Satisfied with the answer, Edward vanished as Noa promised to follow him until the very end. Not long after, Noa heard a voice over the loudspeaker ordering the Exitus personnel to prepare for the voyage to the Philippines, and realized that he had been held aboard a ship the entire time.[5]

Investigation in Cebu[]

Nathan: "Did you know that your father was one of us? A bona fide Assassin, I mean."
Noa: "What...?"
Nathan: "It's a tale as old as time. We leave behind those we love because it's the only way to keep them safe. After all, the Templars are still hunting us down to this day."
—Noa learning the truth about his father from Nathan Zhang, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

After the Exitus sailed to Cebu, Noa and Sei went to explore the city in search of leads to help them track Edward's footsteps. The two were accompanied by an Abstergo entourage for protection, including Sei's personal bodyguard Yuki, whom Noa recognized as the "tour guide" who had welcomed him in Macau. Traveling to the Basilica del Santo Niño, Noa used his Eagle Vision inside the Magellan's Cross Pavilion but was unable to find anything useful, which Sei suspected was because the cross was a replica.[18]

ACFT - Yuki giving Noa the bracer

Yuki giving Noa her bracer

As the Abstergo convoy headed to the next destination, they were suddenly ambushed by members of the Doom Eagle criminal organization, who sought to rescue Noa.[18] The car transporting Noa, Sei, and Yuki was able to escape and head to a shopping mall, where Abstergo was gathering the local police. However, the car was hit by a truck, sending it flying into a fountain. Noa woke up Sei, who had been knocked unconscious in the crash, and helped her out of the wrecked car while Yuki provided them with cover fire.[19]

With Yuki having been injured in the crash, she trusted Noa to protect Sei in her stead and gave him her bracer, which contained a retractable electric shock baton. Noa and Sei then ran into the mall, where they tried to hide from Nathan Zhang and his thugs until the Abstergo backup arrived.[19] After heading into a shop and buying new clothes to disguise themselves, the two began to make their way towards the top floor. However, Noa then decided to use Sei as bait to lure out the thugs pursuing them, and vanished into the crowd.[20]

With the help of a hallucination of Edward guiding him, Noa used the bracer given to him by Yuki to silently incapacitate several thugs who were following Sei. After Nathan fired his pistol into the air to create a commotion, more Doom Eagle thugs attacked Noa and Sei, but the former used his Eagle Vision to identify them and proceeded to dispatch them.[20]

ACFT - Noa facing Nathan

Noa facing off against Nathan

Upon reaching the top floor, Noa and Sei were confronted by Nathan and his remaining men, who proposed a deal to spare Sei if Noa came with them willingly. After Noa refused, Nathan laughed and asked him how he planned to protect both himself and Sei from his gang. Agreeing with Nathan that Sei was just "dead weight" and would slow him down, Noa pushed her off the balcony and onto an inflatable castle below. He then prepared to battle the thugs, but Nathan ordered his men to stand down, as he wished to fight Noa himself.[20]

During their brawl, Noa realized that Nathan was an Assassin when he saw him use one of the Brotherhood's signature moves. Nathan then offered to tell Noa the truth about his father, which angered him. However, upon being pinned to a wall, Noa was forced to listen to Nathan, who revealed that his father was an Assassin who had abandoned his family to protect them from the Templars.[3]

After Nathan implied that Sei had helped the Templars in their hunt of the Assassins, a furious Noa headbutted him and began viciously punching him. Recovering from Noa's surprise attack, Nathan pinned him to the ground and threatened to break his arm if he did not surrender. When Noa claimed that he would not give up without a fight, an impressed Nathan let him go and told him that the time was up, as Abstergo's Sigma Team had arrived at the mall. He then gave Noa the sea log of Edward's companion Rupiya, which contained information to aid him in his quest, and told him to stay true to the Creed and see where it led him.[3]

ACFT - Sigma Team securing Noa

Noa surrounded by Sigma Team

When Noa questioned Nathan's sudden change of heart, the Assassin told him that it was not his place to prevent him from following his own path. However, he warned Noa that, if he continued following in Edward's footsteps for much longer, he might end up consumed by the "spirits of the past". Finally, after reminding Noa that the Zhang Wei Union was always at the service of their "family" and would come rescue him if he ever required help, Nathan took his leave. Moments later, several Sigma Team operatives rappelled down from their helicopter and surrounded Noa.[3]

The operatives escorted Noa to Sei, who angrily confronted him over throwing her from the balcony. Upon hearing this, Yuki, who was also present, became furious and requested permission to use "lethal force", but Sei told her that it was not necessary as they needed Noa alive for the Animus. Sigma Team then prepared to escort Noa back to the Exitus, but Sei claimed that she would do so herself and ordered the operatives to let Noa go. She also thanked Noa for saving her once again before the group left the mall and returned to the ship.[21]

Further investigations[]

"It's not like I remember much about him, anyway... and even if he had his reasons, he left his family behind like we meant nothing to him. Maybe you people killed him, maybe you didn't. It's all the same to me."
―Noa to Sei, regarding his father, c. 2023.[src]-[m]
ACFT - Noa going back into the Animus

Noa preparing to go back into the Animus

Once aboard the Exitus, Noa was ready to go right back into the Animus, surprising Sei, who warned him that it was dangerous to continue so soon given his recent experiences with the Bleeding Effect. After Noa stated that he understood the risks better than anyone, Sei complied and loaded up the next sequence of Edward's memories based on the information from Rupiya's sea log.[21]

Before entering the Animus, however, Noa decided to inform Sei of what Nathan had said about his father and asked the doctor if it was true. Sei confirmed that, years prior, the Templars had carried out a large-scale purge against the Assassins, but claimed that it was impossible to determine if Noa's father had been among the casualties or was even a member of the Brotherhood, as Abstergo had no prior knowledge of Noa's Assassin heritage when they decided to kidnap him.[21]

Seemingly satisfied with the answer, Noa nonchalantly claimed that he did not care what had happened to his father, as he had still abandoned him regardless of the reason. Sei then asked Noa to let her know if anything else was troubling him in the future, as part of her job was to ensure his mental well-being, before the two resumed tracking Edward's memories.[21]

When Edward was subjected to the powers of the crescent amulet, a Piece of Eden capable of conjuring realistic illusions, and seemingly lost his right arm, the intense pain Noa felt at that moment caused a synchronization error. Although Sei wanted to end the Animus session, Noa insisted that they continue and returned to the machine.[22]

ACFT - Edward apparitions

Noa surrounded by several apparitions of Edward

However, Edward's contact with the Piece of Eden proved to have negative consequences for Noa, causing his health and synchronization rate to deteriorate.[23] While Sei called for immediate medical attention, Noa experienced a memory of Edward's earlier life, learning how his greed and desire for greatness had ruined his marriage to Caroline Scott.[24]

As Noa remarked that Edward was no different from his father, he found himself in a void, surrounded by several versions of his ancestor, who urged him to keep his wits or else he may lose himself during his search for answers. He then suddenly regained consciousness, finding Sei and a team of doctors looking over him, and told them that he was fine, only suffering from a headache.[24]

Sei explained that Noa had experienced a data reflux due to the vast amount of information stored within the crescent amulet, which was too much for the human brain to handle. Although Sei warned Noa that another encounter with the Piece of Eden could leave him in a vegetative state or worse, the young man did not care about the consequences and wished to return to the Animus.[24]

Worried for Noa's safety, Sei revealed that he was an extremely valuable asset for Abstergo due to his high synchronization rates. However, she ultimately relented and allowed Noa to go back into the Animus after warning him that she would pull him out herself if she felt his life was in danger.[24]

Rampage aboard the Exitus[]

"I warned you before, dear descendant of mine. Now it's time to choose. Will you let our memories and the artifact's power crush you into oblivion... and lose yourself as a result? Or will you persevere... and find what you seek on the other side of the abyss? Rage, mate. Rage against fate itself."
―The apparition of Edward to Noa inside the Animus, c. 2023.[src]-[m]
ACFT - Assassin Noa

Noa succumbing to the Bleeding Effect

Sure enough, when Edward again came into contact with the crescent amulet in Cebu, Noa's mind and body reacted violently to the Piece of Eden's powers, causing Sei to end the session. However, Noa did not wake up and instead found himself in the Memory Corridor.[25] There, he was approached by an appariton of Edward who explained that the Animus was rendering his memories of his mind being corrupted by the amulet.[26]

The Assassin then claimed that he had warned Noa what would happen if he did not renounce his quest for answers, before offering his descendant a choice: allow his mind to be taken over by his ancestors' memories and the Piece of Eden's powers, or fight "against fate itself." As more apparitions of Edward, now wearing the robes of other Assassins, surrounded Noa, the young man found himself wearing the outfit of Edward's grandson Ratonhnhaké:ton and holding a tomahawk.[26]

Having gained Ratonhnhaké:ton's abilities, Noa suddenly awakened, just as a team of medics was transporting him to the Exitus' medical wing. Getting up from the stretcher, Noa attacked his escorts and proceeded to go on a rampage under the Bleeding Effect's influence.[26]

ACFT - Sei stopping Noa

Sei stopping Noa's rampage

After dispatching several guards, Noa noticed a fire axe and proceeded to grab it, wielding it like a tomahawk to eliminate more guards who attempted to restrain him, including a number of Sigma Team operatives. At that moment, Sei arrived, accompanied by Yuki and more guards, and approached Noa alone, trying to reason with him.[27]

As his Eagle Vision perceived Sei as an enemy, Noa pinned her to the ground and raised his axe to kill her. However, the doctor slapped him and yelled at him to snap out of it so that they could finish what they had started together. This allowed Noa to regain control of his mind and body and he swung down the axe, narrowly missing Sei's head. He then quipped that Sei's slap hurt while everyone around him was left speechless.[27]

Retrieving the crescent amulet[]

Roberts: "You may resist the artifact now, but soon you'll be helpless to fight it! You're only human, after all! All you can do is find what peace you can in the midst of the maelstrom. Godspeed, Kenway! Let us see how you rage against fate itself!"
Noa: "You bastard... Stop calling me by my freaking ancestor's name, you damn ghost... I told you... I'm Noa Kim, and for your information... I'm not being devoured by this piece of junk."
—Noa to the apparition of Bartholomew Roberts, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

Following these events, Noa was returned to his room, until he was later brought to a diving bell ship which Sei's superiors had sent her in order to retrieve the crescent amulet from the Strait of Malacca. Still recovering from the Bleeding Effect, an irritated Noa asked Sei if he really needed to be there, to which the doctor explained that he was living "on borrowed time" and that he was the only one capable of recovering the amulet due to his high resistance to the Pieces of Eden's powers inherited from Edward.[28]

ACFT - Noa and Yuki exploring the wreck

Noa and Yuki exploring the Ourang Medan's wreck

While Noa was getting changed into his scuba gear, Yuki interrupted him, much to his awkwardness and annoyance. The bodyguard simply told Noa to quit being "such a prude" and that there was nothing she had not seen before, just as Sei arrived to inform Noa that Yuki would be accompanying him during his mission. This partially eased Noa's nerves and he jokingly asked if he could keep any sunken treasure he found besides the amulet, prompting an annoyed Sei to tell him to keep his nonsense out of it.[28]

Following this, Noa and Yuki entered the diving bell and went to explore the SS Ourang Medan's wreck in search of the amulet. After spotting a large shark swimming near them, Noa narrowly avoided its jaws and told Yuki about the encounter, only for the bodyguard to tell him to stop fooling around, as they had a limited supply of oxygen and needed to move quickly.[28]

With his Eagle Vision showing him the path to the amulet, Noa took the lead but, while swimming through a dark corridor, he lost sight of Yuki. Panicked, he decided to light up a flare, only to see that he had stumbled onto a moray eel nest.[28] The eels quickly turned hostile and attacked Noa, who swam away.[29]

Noticing an open door, Noa headed inside the room and sealed the door behind him, preventing the eels from chasing him any further. He then saw that the room he had entered was filled with the skeletons of the ship's crew and spotted an ominous glow in the distance. Swimming closer to the light source, Noa discovered it to be the amulet, though as he touched the artifact, the skeleton holding it seemingly came alive and addressed Noa as Edward.[29]

ACFT - Noa confronted by Edward's past

Noa confronted by apparitions of Edward's friends and Roberts

At that moment, Noa found himself in a white void, face-to-face with Edward's nemesis, the Sage Bartholomew Roberts. Roberts taunted Noa about succumbing to the amulet's effects and Edward's memories before the latter suddenly found himself underwater. When he reached the surface, Noa was again confronted by Roberts, alongside apparitions of Edward's friends Charles Vane, Benjamin Hornigold, Mary Read, and Edward Thatch.[29]

The Sage continued to taunt Noa and refer to him as Edward while the young man, now wearing his ancestor's Assassin robes, began to synchronize with Edward's memories despite being outside the Animus. However, he was able to retain his sense of self and stood up to Roberts, addressing him by his "true" name, Aita.[29]

Surprised, Roberts' attitude changed and he cheerfully proclaimed that Noa had been "chosen" and that the amulet, their "legacy", had led him there. Noa was confused about what Roberts meant by their legacy, but the Sage did not elaborate and instead told Noa that, while he may be able to resist the amulet's effects for now, he would inevitably succumb to them as he was only human.[29]

As the hallucination came to an end, Noa found himself back in the Medan's wreck, holding the amulet in his hand. After stating that he had no intention of being devoured by the artifact's power, he left and returned to Yuki.[29] The two then began swimming back to the diving bell, only to be attacked by the same shark from earlier. Noa used the amulet to repel it, though this took a great toll on his mind and body, leaving him in a weakened state.[30]

Escape from Abstergo[]

Nathan: "Not so fast. What the hell did you people do to him? This isn't what we agreed on!"
Sei: "I don't see you stepping up to help your so-called kinsman! Either get on board or get out of my way! I give you my word we'll do everything we can to fix him, and that's the best I can promise!"

Sigma Team confronting Noa, Yuki, and Sei

After returning to the Abstergo ship, Yuki brought Noa to Sei, and the trio began heading towards the sickbay when they were stopped by Sigma Team. Claiming they had received instructions from Abstergo's executive committee ordering Noa's termination, the operatives attempted to carry them out. However, Sei convinced them to keep Noa alive for the time being by pointing out that, with him gone, any chance of researching the amulet was also lost.[30]

Once Sigma Team departed, Noa, Sei, and Yuki were left alone in the sickbay, where Yuki handed Noa a briefcase and told him to place the amulet inside. When Noa asked what Sei and Yuki were up to, the former responded that she was trying to ensure his safety, but now that Abstergo's higher-ups had decided to kill him, time was running short. Sei then declared her intentions to help Noa escape from Abstergo, even if it meant betraying the company.[30]

At that moment, the ship's alarm rang, as the vessel had come under attack by Nathan Zhang and his men, whom Sei had made a secret deal with. Noa, Sei, and Yuki began making their way towards the ship's deck, with Yuki taking the lead and dispatching all Sigma Team operatives in their path. However, Noa had been too weakened by the amulet and struggled to stay on his feet, requiring Sei to carry him.[31]

On the deck, Nathan angrily confronted Sei upon seeing Noa's condition, claiming that was not what they had agreed on. Sei promised that she had thought of a solution to cure Noa, just as more Sigma Team operatives arrived and ordered the group to surrender. Out of options, Nathan told Noa, Sei, and Yuki to jump onto his speedboat, whereupon they escaped from the Abstergo ship and traveled to Singapore to lay low.[31]

Hiding out in Singapore[]

"When a subject's mind is synced with their ancestors' memories due to the Bleeding Effect, the main symptom is almost always violent behavior. But Noa hasn't demonstrated any such abnormal conduct so far, which means he's fighting to retain control of his mind. That's why there's still hope for him. It's proof that he hasn't lost his own sense of self yet."

At a Zhawang Corporation safehouse in Singapore's Chinatown district, Noa was taken to receive immediate medical attention due to his worsening condition. As his Bleeding Effect made him extremely unstable and unpredictable, Noa was tied to a bed while a doctor looked after him.[31]

Meanwhile, Sei informed Nathan of her plan to save Noa's life. As the data from Edward's memories and historical records indicated that the Assassin had made a full recovery from the crescent amulet's effects, Sei theorized another Piece of Eden to be responsible. Thus, the doctor decided to track it down by reliving her ancestor Shimazu Saito's memories in a prototype Animus HR-8 she and Yuki had brought with them.[31]

Later, Noa had partially recovered and could walk again, though he was still in a considerable amount of pain. Making his way to the room where Sei, Yuki, and Nathan were, Noa saw that Sei had also begun suffering from the Bleeding Effect and volunteered to take her place in the Animus. The doctor protested, but Nathan explained that Noa was risking his life for Sei's because he trusted her. With that, Noa entered the Animus and continued exploring Edward's memories.[32]

Edward's memories eventually revealed the whereabouts of a Piece of Eden in the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. With Abstergo having tracked them down and dispatched Sigma Team to capture them, Sei woke Noa up from the Animus and gave him an adrenaline shot to help him maintain consciousness. She then instructed him to follow her lead as they, Yuki, and Nathan left the safehouse and prepared to travel to Myanmar.[33]

ACFT - Sigma Team defeated

While running through an alley, the group was attacked by several Sigma Team members, initiating a fight. Noa, who by this point had completely succumbed to the Bleeding Effect's control, attacked two Sigma Team operatives on instinct and effortlessly defeated them using his electric bracer. Nathan was impressed by this and remarked that Noa's ancestors must be looking out for him.[34]

After dealing with the remaining operatives, the group made their way to a nearby seaplane and, from there, flew to a cargo ship which would bring them to Myanmar. Aboard the ship, Noa was placed on a stretcher by Nathan's men and then taken to rest until they arrived at their destination.[34]

Shwedagon Pagoda heist[]

"Don't get me wrong, I still have no idea what I'm doing. I've just been flailing to stay afloat and avoid losing myself. But if you're asking me what I'm going to do with the artifact's power... then I choose freedom above all else! The freedom to walk down whatever path I think is right!"
―Noa answering the Piece of Eden's question, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

After arriving in Yangon, Noa and the others went to stay at a hotel near the Shwedagon Pagoda while planning their infiltration of the temple. However, by this point, Noa had completely lost himself to Edward's memories and believed himself to be his ancestor. When Sei arrived to speak with "Edward", she explained to him that he was in the body of one of his descendants and convinced him to help recover the Piece of Eden from the pagoda so they could save Noa's life.[35]

ACFT - Noa and Sei finding the tunnel

Noa and Sei finding the secret tunnel

At night, while Nathan and his men attacked the soldiers guarding the Shwedagon Pagoda as a distraction, Noa and Sei infiltrated one of the smaller temples nearby. There, they found a secret underground passage leading to the main pagoda and proceeded to go through it, arriving at their destination. However, while admiring the interior of the pagoda, "Edward" addressed Sei as Saito, causing the doctor to briefly lose herself in her ancestor's memories.[35]

After Sei managed to resist the Bleeding Effect's pull, she and Noa cautiously approached the compartment housing the Piece of Eden. "Edward" warned Sei that retrieving the artifact would be no easy feat, and soon they both became caught in the Piece of Eden's illusions.[36] "Edward" found himself in a white void, where he was met by an apparition of Bartholomew Roberts.[1]

As Roberts began to taunt him, "Edward" told the Sage that he was in no mood for his mockery, only for Roberts to reveal that he wished to speak to Noa, who had piqued his interest. Suddenly, Noa regained his sense of self and realized that he had lost himself in Edward's memories, while Roberts laughed at his predicament. After telling Noa that the time had come to face himself, Roberts vanished and, in his place, a projection of Edward appeared and challenged his descendant to a fight.[1]

ACFT - Noa and Edward in the void

Noa refusing to fight Edward

Equipped with the Assassin's Phantom Blade, Noa sparred with Edward but struggled to land a hit as their skill levels were equally matched. After Edward struck him with one of his Hidden Blades, Noa realized that he was fighting more than just an illusion and put his hands up. Refusing to continue the duel, Noa claimed that the Edward in front of him was just a reflection of himself and pointed out that Roberts had not said anything about a fight, just that he had to face his true self. With that, he declared that he would not deny or fight who he was anymore, satisfying the Piece of Eden, which commenced its next "trial".[1]

As the artifact took the shape of Noa's various ancestors – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore, and even Edward's grandson Ratonhnhaké:ton – to speak with him, it pondered if Noa would defend the Creed passed down through generations of his blood or would try to satisfy his own greed. It then finally settled on the form of Noa's father, the object of his greatest desire.[1]

The Piece of Eden offered to tell Noa everything he ever wanted to know about his father and his family's roots, but Noa, after several moments of consideration, refused. Claiming that he no longer cared about who or what his father was and that Edward's memories had taught him that "nothing is true and everything is permitted", Noa declared that the only way to heal from his trauma was to stop looking into the past for answers and find his own path. He then answered the Piece of Eden's question of what he would do with its power, claiming that he chose freedom above all; the freedom to do whatever he thought was right.[1]

ACFT - Noa meeting Edward

Edward speaking to Noa

Satisfied with the response, the artifact ended the trial and its illusions vanished. As Noa moved to pick up the glowing, lantern-shaped Piece of Eden, the room around him was engulfed in a golden light and Noa found himself face-to-face with Edward, whose mind had been transported to the future by the artifact. Speaking with his descendant, Edward took comfort in knowing that Noa had learned the same lesson he had and assured him that he would never stop fighting for the future, so that the present Noa knew would come to pass.[1]

When Edward asked if Noa was ready to follow in his footsteps a little longer, the latter responded that he was done keeping up with everyone else and that he would try to carve out his own path alongside the people he cared about. He then picked up the Piece of Eden while declaring that he was ready for any challenges the future had in store.[1]

After waking up Sei, who had passed out from the artifact's powers, Noa told her that he had been cured of the Bleeding Effect by the Piece of Eden. The pair were then informed by Yuki that Sigma Team had arrived at the Shwedagon Pagoda and was preparing to breach the temple. With little time to spare, Noa used his Eagle Vision to find the path Edward and Saito had taken to escape the pagoda, learning they had used another secret tunnel. Noa and Sei then fled through the same tunnel, moments before Sigma Team's arrival.[37]

ACFT - Noa combining the artifacts

Noa holding the two Pieces of Eden

Making their way to the nearest road, Noa and Sei were picked up by Yuki and Nathan, whereupon the group drove away from Yangon to escape from the Abstergo forces hunting them. While heading to a safehouse outside the city, Noa decided to combine the artifact recovered from the Shwedagon Pagoda with the crescent amulet.[37] As he did so, he got to experience a glimpse of the past, reliving Edward and Saito's own escape from the pagoda.[38]

Upon arriving at the safehouse, Noa told Sei that he had used the two Pieces of Eden to view the past without the need of the Animus. The two then saw that Yuki was bleeding from a gunshot wound she had sustained and headed inside so Sei could tend to her. As the group discussed their next course of action, Nathan suggested stealing a seaplane from a hangar near Yangon's harbor to flee Myanmar. When Noa asked why they could not simply drive out of the country, Nathan told him that Abstergo and the Tatmadaw, Myanmar's military, were working together and likely watching all the roads.[38]

After Yuki proposed using the Pieces of Eden in their possession to fight against Abstergo, she and Nathan got into an argument, as the latter was opposed to the idea of using the artifacts' power. Noa broke up their fight and insisted that the only things that mattered were their survival and keeping the Pieces out of Abstergo's reach. He then suggested separating the artifacts to reduce the risk of losing both, and handed Sei the second artifact while he took the amulet. Afterwards, the group left the safehouse, returning to Yangon.[38]

Escape from Yangon[]

Nathan: "Let's be honest, now that we've got one of the artifacts, we can just lay low and ride this out. As long as the Templars don't nab them all, we win by default."
Noa: "That's exactly why they'll hunt us down to the ends of the Earth. We'd never have a moment's rest. Sei's right. We're in too deep to quit now. Like it or not, we have to finish what we've started."

ACFT - Noa subduing Sigma Team

While infiltrating Yangon's harbor, Noa, armed with his electric bracer and newly-acquired Phantom Blade, as well as all of Edward's skills, took the lead and dispatched several Sigma Team members to clear the path for Sei, Yuki, and Nathan. He then headed to the ship where Nathan's men were being held captive, and switfly incapacitated more Sigma operatives in a matter of seconds, impressing Nathan. The Assassin subsequently told Noa to let him handle the rest and to go to the hangar.[39]

Regrouping with Sei and Yuki, Noa used a drone to survey the hangar and found that it was unguarded. However, as the trio made their way there, they suddenly heard the alarm being raised and witnessed the entire harbor being placed on high alert, due to Nathan having been caught while freeing his captive men.[39] Moments later, Noa, Sei, and Yuki found themselves surrounded by Sigma Team, prompting them to run for cover before the Templars opened fire on them.[40]

Noa protected Sei and Yuki and dealt with the Sigma operatives, although the effort left him exhausted. He then jumped down and subdued an Abstergo agent who had ambushed Sei and Yuki, saving the pair and clearing the path ahead. Finally arriving at the hangar, Noa, Sei, and Yuki boarded the seaplane and began to prepare for take-off.[40]

While waiting for Nathan to join them, Yuki realized that they would not have enough time to escape, as Abstergo reinforcements had just arrived, so she decided to buy them more time. After informing Noa and Sei of her intentions, they both tried to stop her, but Yuki insisted that her only wish was to see Sei safe and that she would do anything to accomplish that goal. Trusting Noa to protect Sei in her stead, Yuki left to face Sigma Team alone and allow Nathan and his men to reach the hangar. She was ultimately successful, although it came at the cost of her life.[40]

ACFT - Sei holding the amulet

After Nathan arrived at the hangar with the Animus HR-8, which he had recovered from the ship, Sei angrily blamed him for Yuki's death. As the Assassin tried to defend himself, insisting that Yuki had sacrificed herself for them to escape, the hangar was suddenly surrounded by Sigma Team, trapping Noa, Sei, and Nathan inside.[40] Out of options, Sei seized the crescent amulet from Noa, leading both him and Nathan to question her intentions.[41]

After using the artifact to subdue Nathan when he pointed a gun at her, Sei turned to face the incoming Sigma Team members. As the Templars were immobilized by the amulet's powers, Sei told Noa to escape with the second artifact, which she had left inside the seaplane, and put her faith in him that he would find and rescue her so they could finish what they had started together. Noa vowed to do so before Nathan's men dragged him into the seaplane, and they flew away to safety.[41]

Saved by the Assassins[]

Nathan: "Whew, you really saved my neck there."
Noa: "I though you were supposed to keep me safe. Can't a guy live out his Animus pirate fantasies in peace?"

Noa, Nathan and his men traveled to an uncharted island used as a hideout by the Zhawang Corporation, where Nathan believed that they would be safe for a time. Reflecting on the recent events, Nathan expressed his surprise at the fact Sei had sacrificed herself to save them and jokingly claimed that she had done so because of her feelings for Noa, but the latter responded that Sei only wanted him to help her finish her mission.[41]

Nathan then remarked that, as long as they kept the Piece of Eden in their possession out of Abstergo's reach, they would win by default, but Noa insisted that the Templars would never stop hunting them. Concluding that they needed to follow in their ancestors' footsteps and track down the third and final artifact, Noa entered the Animus HR-8 brought by Nathan to continue reliving Edward's memories while Nathan and his men watched over him.[41]

Ancestry[]

"My ancestors sure got around."
―Noa commenting on his ancestry, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

Noa's genetic heritage reflects a diverse mix of East Asian and Southeast Asian origins, with a notable combination of Korean and Japanese ancestry, constituting 25% Korean and 24% Japanese heritage. Additionally, there is a West Asian influence, with 4% Syrian ancestry. The Western European component includes 16% British and 10% Italian heritage. Further contributing to the rich tapestry of Noa's ancestry is Native American lineage, specifically 19% Iroquois.[7]

ACFT - Noa Kim's ancestry

Noa's genetic heritage as shown by the WhyYou website

Noa came about from a number of different lines of Assassins, possessing perhaps the richest Assassin ancestry since Desmond Miles. His most distant known ancestors were Umar Ibn-La'Ahad and Maud, two members of the Levantine Brotherhood during the late 12th century.[42] Their son, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, became one of the Brotherhood's most legendary Mentors and fathered two sons, Darim and Sef, with his wife Maria Thorpe,[43] though it is unknown which one of them was Noa's next ancestor.[1]

Noa's bloodline also extended to Italy during the Renaissance, where his ancestors included several members of the noble House of Auditore. The most notable of them was Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a renowned member and eventual Mentor of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins,[1] who fathered at least three children during his lifetime.[44][43]

Of particular interest to Abstergo Industries was Noa's relation to the Kenway family, in particular Edward Kenway, an infamous privateer and pirate in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy, and later a prominent member and one of the co-leaders of the British Brotherhood of Assassins.[7] In 1725, Edward and his wife Tessa conceived a son, Haytham, who became the founder and first Grand Master of the Colonial Templars. Haytham later went on to have a child of his own, the American Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, who was another one of Noa's notable ancestors.[1]

Noa was also a descendant of Yun Pyeong-Gyu, a Korean scholar and engineer during the Joseon dynasty, and later a member of Edward's Zhang Wei Union.[2]

Personality and traits[]

"I've always had this empty feeling inside me. I didn't know where in the world I belong. That's why I decided to give this a try... I saw how free you were, and I thought, if I try to be more like you... maybe I could find an answer to that question one day."
―Noa talking to a hallucination of Edward Kenway, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

The disappearance of his father very early on in his life had a profound effect on Noa who, assuming his father had simply abandoned him and his mother, vowed to never become anything like him. As a result, he believed that family should always come first and that no amount of money could make up for a parent's absence.[8] He also held extreme contempt for his father, blaming him for many of the problems he faced in his youth, such as the teasing and bullying he had to endure at school.[4]

ACFT - Noa finding his mother crying

Noa also struggled with feelings of not fitting in, as wherever he was, be it the United States or Korea, people treated him like an outsider. This determined Noa to find his place in the world by learning more about his family's history.[5] Another consequence of his father's abandonment was the financial struggles Noa and his mother faced. After getting into college, Noa was forced to work multiple part-time jobs, often during school hours, to afford his tuition, which led him to resent wealthy people who never had to work a day in their life.[6]

Despite the struggles of his upbringing, Noa managed to maintain an upbeat attitude as an adult, though he would still have an intense emotional reaction whenever something reminded him of his trauma.[8] Even in situations that would be stressful for most people, Noa retained his confidence and sense of humor. Following his abduction by Abstergo, he took every opportunity to make jokes and tease Shimazu Sei, much to the doctor's frustration,[9] as she believed Noa did not take anything seriously.[5]

Noa also possessed a sharp intellect and critical thinking. He questioned Sei's comments about the Assassins being criminals,[10] and after learning the truth about his father's Assassin affiliations from Nathan Zhang, he refused to believe him, thinking that Nathan was just trying to mess with his mind.[3] Even after Sei informed him that his father may have been an Assassin who had been killed in the Great Purge, Noa claimed that he did not care what had happened to him, as regardless of the reason, his father had still chosen to abandon his family like they meant nothing to him.[21]

ACFT - Noa in his room

Noa contemplating the Bleeding Effect's toll on his psyche

As a result of the Bleeding Effect, Noa assimilated several of Edward Kenway's personality traits, such as his confidence, but also his aggressiveness. After spending an extended period of time in the Animus, he began to suffer from Bleeding Effect-induced hallucinations, which Sei believed could eventually make him lose his sanity.[6]

With each session in the Animus, Noa believed that he was getting closer to uncovering his family's roots and finding the answers to the questions that had been troubling him his entire life. As such, he was determined to reach the end of Edward's story as quickly as possible, disregarding his own safety in the process and ignoring Sei's warnings about the consequences of prolonged Animus sessions.[24]

Eventually, Noa's Bleeding Effect worsened to the point where he could gain the abilities of other Assassins even without having relived their memories. This momentarily drove him insane and caused him to go on a rampage,[26] until Sei helped him return to his senses, as even under the Bleeding Effect's influence, Noa could not bring himself to harm Sei.[27]

ACFT - Noa Edward

Noa momentarily overtaken by Edward's memories

Later, after another stint in the Animus, Noa's psyche became so damaged that his personality and memories were replaced with Edward's, essentially allowing his ancestor to take over his body.[35] It was not until Noa came into contact with the Piece of Eden in the Shwedagon Pagoda that he was cured of the Bleeding Effect and regained his sense of self.[1]

During his "trial" to claim Shwedagon's artifact, Noa reflected on everything he had learned during his journey and realized that his goal was no longer learning what had happened to his father or uncovering his family's roots. Instead, he declared that he would follow his own path, regardless of where it led him.[1] He soon concluded that this meant fighting against Abstergo and stopping their plans for world domination at all costs.[38] In the process, Noa grew noticeably more serious and determined, as he finally understood the true scale of the conflict he had become a part of.[41]

Skills and equipment[]

"He's nothing more than a pale imitation of Kenway."
―Nathan Zhang commenting on Noa's fighting skills, c. 2023.[src]-[m]

After reliving Edward Kenway's memories, Noa gained his ancestor's fighting skills. He was able to easily overpower a group of trained Abstergo guards and was only stopped due to falling asleep as a result of exhaustion.[14] Through these abilities, he was also able to fight a number of armed Doom Eagle thugs, both at the A-Ma Cultural Village[15] and in Cebu,[20] and hold his own against Nathan Zhang, a trained Assassin.[3] Furthermore, he could easily dispatch several members of Abstergo's elite task force, Sigma Team, although he became noticeably exhausted after sufficient fighting.[39]

ACFT - Noa incapacitating a thug

In addition to combat, Noa also became extremely proficient in freerunning and stealth. He easily scaled a wall at the A-Ma Cultural Village to escape from an Abstergo guard,[14] and effortlessly freeran across several crates at Yangon's harbor.[39] He also silently dispatched a number of Doom Eagle thugs to protect Shimazu Sei while hiding in a crowd,[20] and was able to incapacitate multiple Sigma Team operatives in a matter of seconds without being spotted.[39]

Like Edward, Noa developed the extra-sensory ability known as Eagle Vision, which helped him see objects and markings invisible to the naked eye,[6] and to discern friend from foe.[20] In time, Noa mastered the ability, allowing him to track Edward's exact footsteps in locations visited by his ancestor.[37]

While in Cebu, Noa received a special bracer from Yuki which contained a retractable electric shock baton, akin to a Hidden Blade. Unlike the Assassins' signature weapon, it was non-lethal, merely knocking enemies unconscious.[19] Later, through the time-manipulation abilities of the Shwedagon Pagoda's Piece of Eden, he also acquired Edward's Phantom Blade,[1] which he used to silently eliminate targets from a distance.[39]

Through a combination of the Bleeding Effect and the powers of the crescent amulet, Noa gained the abilities of several other Assassins besides Edward, most notably Ratonhnhaké:ton.[26] This allowed him to wield a fire axe like a tomahawk with great proficiency, easily dispatching numerous Abstergo guards sent to restrain him.[27]

ACFT - Noa freerunning

During his exploration of the Ourang Medan's wreck, Noa proved to be a strong swimmer, being able to outswim a shark and multiple eels.[28] He also appeared to have inherited Edward's high resistance to the powers of the Pieces of Eden, successfully resisting the crescent amulet's effects,[29] albeit only for a short time.[30] After retrieving the Shwedagon Pagoda's artifact, Noa gained a new level of mastery over the Pieces of Eden, and could control them long enough to subdue multiple targets at once.[38]

Behind the scenes[]

Noa Kim is the main protagonist of the webtoon Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple, which debuted in 2023.

Ancestry[]

Throughout the first two seasons of the webtoon, Noa's ancestry is left up to interpretation. Although Edward Kenway is initially Noa's only confirmed Assassin ancestor, a number of easter eggs suggest a relation to other prominent Assassin's Creed characters, namely Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore, and Ratonhnhaké:ton. In the first episode, Noa is shown to have Syrian, Italian, and Iroquois ancestry, and in Episode 74, he gains Altaïr, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton's skills through the Bleeding Effect; the only way this is possible without Noa having relived their memories is if he was related to them.

In Episode 100, Noa is finally confirmed to be a direct descendant of Altaïr, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton while interacting with the Piece of Eden in the Shwedagon Pagoda, which projects apparitions of these three characters while mentioning Noa's rich Assassin ancestry.

Since Desmond Miles is the only other known individual to have Altaïr, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton as ancestors at the same time, this could imply Noa is unknowingly related to him. However, it should be noted that Desmond's relation to Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton comes from his paternal line, while Altaïr is his ancestor on the maternal line. As such, it is entirely possible that Noa and Desmond having these common ancestors is just a coincidence.

Etymology[]

"Noa" is derived from the Hebrew name "Noah" (נֹחַ), meaning 'rest', 'peace', 'comfort', or 'the one who gives comfort'.[45] "Kim" is a common Korean surname that means 'gold'.[46]
