Nishinomiya Shrine (西宮神社) is a Shinto shrine in Nishinomiya in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.[1] At the time of the Sengoku period, the shrine was part of the province of Izumi Settsu.[2]
In 1582, the Iga kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe visited the shrine and met the priest Shin'nyo, who told her about the ravenous and "colorful" group of ronin called the Kabukimono who ravaged and wreck havoc upon the land. As the local daimyo had not paid attention to the issue, Naoe took it upon herself to hunt down the kabukimono.[3] Around the same time, Naoe also entered the shrine to make prayers at various altars.[2]
