Melunois in the 9th century
Melunois was a historical region of France which comprised the areas west and south of Paris. During the 9th century, the once largely forested and flowered region had been devasted by fighting between the Vikings led by Sigfred and Franks led by the King Charles the Fat. A serious of defeats by Charles forced Sigfred to make his stand in the town of Melun, where he preparations to lay siege to Paris in the north.[1]
