"Sophists and schemers...all of them bow to the sword."
―Megakreon, c. 422 BCE.[src]-[m]

Megakreon (died c. 422 BCE), also known as the Unbreakable, was a member of the Order of the Storm, a branch of the Order of the Ancients, operating in Achaia, Greece during the 5th century BCE.

Biography

Megakreon was recruited into the Order by Phila as her right-hand-man sometime around 422 BCE, understanding the man's disdain for endless debate and war.[1] After learning that a Gyras, a Patrean engineer hired by Phila, had abandoned his work on Chimera's Breath, she sent Megakreon to spy on Gyras.[2] She also told Megakreon that she would hold him personally responsible for a timely completion of the weapon.[3]

Megakreon himself ordered his fellow Ancients not to engage the Eagle Bearer in combat, although the Broker did not agree with his orders, and planned to fight the Eagle Bearer anyway, intending on delivering her head to the Tempest and thus gaining her favor.[4]

Tracking the engineer to the amphitheater in Patrai, Megakreon found the engineer talking with the Eagle Bearer–the Spartan misthios Kassandra–and revealing the plans to her. Shortly after Kassandra left to retrieve the plans, Megakreon assaulted Gyras and murdered him at the amphitheater.[2]

He hid afterwards, awaiting for Kassandra to return. When she did, Megakreon faced her with his guards, intent on killing her himself. His plan was foiled as the Persian Darius came to Kassandra's aid. Together, they slew Megakreon.[2]

Behind the scenes

The name of Megakreon, a character in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey's DLC Legacy of the First Blade: Shadow Heritage, is derived from the Greek words μεγα (μεγακρυον) (megá-), meaning 'great', and κρείων (kreíōn), meaning 'ruler, lord, master'.
