Masireh was a 14th-century Wangaran gold trader. Living in Timbuktu, Masireh and his family exploited his people's secret gold mines in West Africa which were coveted by unscrupulous individuals.

He is an ancestor to Grace and David Collins, two 21st-century teenagers.

Biography[]

Kidnapped by a merchant[]

One day after selling his wares in Timbuktu, Masireh went to meet a merchant from Marrakech, Morocco, to explore new business opportunities. The merchant was staying at a local inn and Masireh met him inside. The two greeted each other with various pleasantries before getting to business over some freshly brewed tea. The merchant wanted to know the secret location of the gold mines of the Wangaran people, a request Masireh could not help with as it was important to his people. The merchant thought as much, just as Masireh's vision started going blurry due to having been drugged via the tea. He soon fell unconscious.[1]

Awakening some time later, a bound Masireh was interrogated by the merchant for the location of the gold mines. He sliced Masireh's cheek with his own dagger before leaving to sleep for the night. Masireh was given five hours to contemplate and pray to Allah for strength.[1]

Still unable to free himself from his bindings, Masireh sat in the desert where he had been left until the following morning. The merchant approached him again, still demanding the mine's location, and Masireh lied that he did not know it because he was in charge of the gold trade while his brother oversaw the mines. He then cleverly tricked the merchant with a false map that his brother had supposedly left for him in case he died. After retrieving the map, which led nowhere, the merchant and his men let Masireh go.[2]

At some point following this, Masireh fathered at least one more child with his wife.[1]

Legacy[]

In October 2016,[3][4] Grace Collins relived Masireh's memories through the Animus on behalf of the Templars in order to track down a Piece of Eden.[1] After reliving her ancestor's memories, Grace became less impatient with the trial and error nature of the Animus. Masireh's memories, however, did not contain any clues to the Piece's location, so the Templars moved on.[2]

After her brother David, wishing to become more independent, went off on his own and sided with the Templars, Grace, who had sided with the Assassins, secretly wished that she had a brother more like Masireh's, one she could rely on.[5] When they were separated, Grace felt that David would find his way back to her, and so she put her faith in him just as Masireh had put his faith in his own brother.[6] When they were finally reunited, they bonded over Masireh's memories.[7]

Personality and traits[]

Masireh was not a large man, instead having a slender stature. His attire consisted of robes with sandals and a sash around his waist. He also wore a cap covering his head.[1]

Skills and equipment[]

Masireh carried a small dagger for self-defense and was skilled enough in its use.[1] He was also a proficient liar as he was able to trick his way out of revealing the location of his people's gold mines.[2]
