The city could be divided into four main districts, being the port, the marketplace, the cathedral square and the castle.
In 1191, the city of Limassol was under control of the Templars, who ruled the populace with an iron fist. The supreme ruler of Limassol, along with the island, was the Templar Grand Master Armand Bouchart. Because of his oppression, "people [were] afraid to leave their homes in fear of breaking some obscure new law".
In late 1510, the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze sailed to Limassol during his pilgrimage to Masyaf, on a ship owned by Ma'Mun, after he had received a map of the island that was drawn by the Ottoman cartographer and Assassin, Piri Reis. Later, during his stay, Ezio rediscovered the mostly destroyed Templar Archive.
