PL Truth SeekerHQ They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me La Morguy.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

La Morguy was the alias of a Templar agent assigned to help and monitor Pierre de Lancre during his witch-hunt. To do so, she pretended to be a repenting witch who would use her "magical powers" at the Inquisition's service to detect other sorcerers.[1] She was a high-ranking Templar, known for her abilities in stealth and information-gathering.[2]

Biography[]

In 1609, she was tasked with providing reports on Pierre de Lancre and his operation by Grand Master Alexandre de Hautecourt, seeking to see if Pierre was deserving of a promotion. La Morguy was to observe and obey the judge's instructions without interfering.[3] She chose to start her review by placing loyal informants into Pierre's entourage before breaking into the pantry one morning and waiting for the judge, scaring him.[2] La Morguy disagreed with Pierre's quick execution of Catherine, seeing it as a loss of potential information on the Shroud of Eden and on the Assassin that had stolen it, Nicodemus.

Later, as Pierre talked with Catherine's daughter Ermeline, she posed as a repenting witch, to try and get the girl to ally with the Templar, though she refused to give up information on her sister, Margaux, who'd evaded capture.[2] La Morguy would join these talks often, though Ermeline did not trust her, considering her character to be both too stupid and too false.[4] Pierre de Lancre asked La Morguy and François Ascair to join him in planning the attack against the Assassins stationed in Bayonne. Though they were unfriendly with each other, they eventually reached a consensus.[5]

Following the successful attack and their recovery of the Shroud of Eden, Pierre revealed to La Morguy that he had sent it with Ascair to the Castle of Saint-Pée to keep it safe. Although infuriated with being kept in the dark, La Morguy had to commend him for having the foresight to request Templar reinforcements from Bordeaux and Toulouse.[6] She, however, disagreed with Pierre's desire to make a show of force, but complied with her orders and was part of the procession for an execution when a riot erupted, led by a group of sailors recently arrived from Newfoundland. In the chaos that followed, she prevented an Assassin from killing Pierre, breaking his knee and stabbing him in the throat.[7]

The Templars also suffered an attack at the Castle of Saint-Pée, losing many of their members as well as the Shroud. La Morguy was reassigned at the end of her mission and did not attend the debriefing in Paris, though she handed Grand Master de Hautecourt her reports on Pierre de Lancre, ultimately aiding in the latter's de facto demotion.[3]

Personality and traits[]

Pierre de Lancre described La Morguy as a woman in her early thirties with black hair and bright blue eyes. He also noted that despite being disguised as a peasant, her tricks did little to hide her "natural majesty", which he deduced to be from a noble or higher class upbringing, like many others in the Templar Order.[2]
