Krok Uxiblóð (died c. 874) was a Viking and one of Halfdan Ragnarsson's commanders.
Biography[]
While in Lunden, Krok and his band ambushed Geirmund Hel-hide, hoping that by slaying the man who had murdered Ubba Ragnarsson's kinsman Fasti, he would be made into a jarl. Geirmund and Aslef managed to escape Krok, though not without injuries.[1] Krok planned another ambush on a small village on the road away from Lunden, but he was outsmarted by Geirmund, as he lost four of his men.[2]
Some time after, Krok captured Tova and sought to use her as a bargaining chip for the silver at Medeshamstede. On the day, the exchange was to take place, as four members of his war-band escorted her to the abbey, but the Hel-hides, disguised as monks, killed them and rescued Tova.[3] The next day, Krok's attention was drawn away from the monastery as the Hel-hides ran away in a direction away from the monastery.[4]
Krok and his war-band caught up with the Hel-hides at a river close to Ravensthorpe, where Eivor Varinsdottir and her crew met them. Eivor stopped their argument as Krok and Geirmund agreed to have a holmgang according to law. Krok and Geirmund chose to fight to the death using sword and shield, and after a short battle, Krok was killed. In response, Krok's men tried to kill Geirmund but the other Hel-hides and Eivor's warriors quickly killed them.[4]
