King's Hall at night
King's Hall was a royal hall in Dublin, Ireland. This abode was the home base of the King of Dublin.
History[]
In the late 9th century, jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan visited her cousin Bárid mac Ímair, King of Dublin, at his request. During the festivities inside the royal hall, she witnessed an argument between Bárid and his young son, Sichfrith. Clearing his mind, Bárid left as Sichfrith engaged into a brief scuffle with Eivor. After the short brawl, she left Sichfrith and tended to Bárid, who went to Gortknaw to talk with his father at his grave. However, Bárid and Eivor reconvened with Azar at King's Hall about their ambushed attack. The culprit happened to a Viking named Thorstein and Eivor pledged to help him with this nuisance.[1]
Eivor set out to find Thorstein, who happened to be at Dubgaill Landing. After she found Thorstein, Eivor carried him all the way to King's Hall and pronounced him in front of Bárid. Being merciful, Bárid declared an exile for Thorstein and spared him, in sake to gain support for future High King Flann Sinna. Bárid explained to Sichfrith that this decision was to show an example of Christian mercy, to obtain favor and support from Flann.[2]
After restablishing Rathdown, Eivor soon went back to King's Hall to tell him of the good news.[3] When meeting Bárid at King's Hall, Eivor told him about securing the gift. Delighted, Bárid told his cousin that he needed to find Flann's poetess within the city as he lost track of her. Within the conversation, Eivor agreed to find her and meet with Bárid later.[4]
In 881, after a series of events, Bárid had died in battle and Sichfrith became the new King of Dublin. Drunk and bereft, Sichfrith was sitting at the throne in King's Hall when Eivor came to see him. Wanting Abbot Eogan dead, Sichfrith was speaking erratically until Eivor came to settle him down. Azar came into the conversation and told of the weapon supply being halted by a Child of Danu named "The Seed." Thus, Eivor went to find The Seed as Sichfrith was told to back and support Flann, in order to maintain an allyship between Flann and Dublin.[5]
