Katana (died 1526) was the adoxpted son of the Japanese pirate Taki Choji.

Biography[]

As a young boy aboard of a large trading ship in the East China Sea, Katana was the only survivor of the crew who had been slaughtered by pirates that boarded the ship, managing to survive by hiding amongst the corpses. A few days later, Katana was found by Taki Choji and his crew of pirates, who had sought to take chances with a large trading vessel. Choji then took him in, adopting the boy and naming him as Katana, for the blade the boy had taken in attempt to defend himself when Choji boarded the ship. From then on, Katana became a key member of his adopted father's crew during their raids.[1]

In 1526, Katana, along with his father and the crew, were based on a small island, awaiting tribute from a chieftain by the name of Sun as part of their agreement. Instead of Sun, they were greeted by the arrival of Zhang Yong, the Templar leader of the Eight Tigers in the Ming Empire. Zhang Yong claimed to have come on behalf of Sun and presented a large box that contained the chieftain's tributes of cured meats to Choji. In place of the tribute, however, was the yuxiao Beelzebub, who used its overwhelming strength to kill Choji's assistant Fukuyuma Waretsuku, the majority of Choji's crew, and Katana as well when he tried to defend his father.[1]
