Kanō Eitoku (狩野 永徳, 1543 – 1590) was a Japanese painter from Kyoto who lived during the Azuchi–Momoyama period. He was one of the Kano Painting School's most prominent patriarch, having the daimyōs Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi among his patrons.[1]

In the early 1580s, Kanō encountered the Igan kunoichi Fujibayashi Naoe and the samurai Yasuke and enlisted their help to retrieve his paintings stored in castles across Japan, fearing they would be destroying during the national upheavals.[2]
