Kaede (died c. 1570s) was a Japanese Assassin of the Kakushiba ikki who operated during the mid-16th century.
Biography[]
Originally posted in Izumi Settsu, Kaede was sent by the league's leader Tsuyu to Omi Province as part of their efforts to expand and establish an outpost in the region. Some time after establishing the outpost, Kaede received a letter from Tsuyu informing them of a group[1] who had discovered the location where the Kakushiba ikki kept the Imperial Regalia, which the Assassins had been entrusted to protect.[2]
Kaede was thus ordered to abandon the expansion efforts and return to Settsu to prepare for the impending attack by the group. Kaede followed Tsuyu's orders and returned to Settsu, but did not survive the battle and was among the Assassins who perished in the kofun where the artifacts were kept.[1]
Years later, in 1582, Kaede's correspondence with Tsuyu was recovered by the latter's daughter Fujibayashi Naoe, who sought to learn more about the Kakushiba ikki.[1]
