Ise Asuka (died 1582), also known as The Concubine, was a Japanese daikan who presided over Kyoto, Yamashiro.
Biography[]
Ise Asuka worked as the daikan of Kyoto. Wearing a feminine disguise, he infiltrated public gatherings and gathered information from his subjects, whom he subsequently extorted. Asuka, along with other daikans, later allied with the Shinbakufu to financially support their plans in exchange for protection.[1]
In 1582, Kuma, a bodyguard to Lady Oichi, spoke with the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke about eliminating a group of corrupt daikans. They agreed to help and went to hunt down these officials. At a Noh theater in Kyoto, they caught sight of Asuka watching the performance in his disguise. Subsequently, Naoe and Yasuke assassinated Asuka, ending his extortion scheme, and acquired a kusarigama, The Concubine's Veil, from his personal effects.[1]
Personality and traits[]
Ise Asuka wore a kimono and a noh mask as his disguise and wielded dual tantōs as his main weapons.[2]
