Hayate (died 1582) was a Japanese explosives specialist and a member of the Winter Raiders during the 16th century.
Biography[]
By 1582, Hayate was part of a group of trained warriors, led by Jinbei, that protected the region Kii, especially the village of Gobo. Unfortunately, Gobo's elder banished them to further stockpile their resources for his villagers solely. Betrayed, the warriors became the Winter Raiders, who terrorized the region every winter and killed anyone who opposed their raiding. He specialized in their ambushes and explosives plots.[1]
When the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke met with Gobo's elder and local woman Rin, they agreed to assassinate the Winter Raiders. Following a clue from the Gobo elder, they investigated and acquired Hayate's last known location. Finding him, Naoe and Yasuke assassinated Hayate and acquired a teppō, Kagutsuchi's Deed, and a letter to Jinbei from his personal effects.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Hayate may be killed in eastern Kii during the winter or at the Winter Raiders' base, Sandanbeki Cave, with his fellow raiders during the other seasons.[1]
