I wanted to ask you something. Which is… what's your name? The title of this article is conjecture. Although the subject of this article is canon, no official name for it has been given. |
The Greek Brotherhood of Assassins was the branch of Assassins located in Greece.
History[]
Establishment[]
One of the first iterations of the Brotherhood was founded in Krete by the Hidden One Marcus Junius Brutus in 44 BCE when he took refuge on the island after the assassination of Julius Caesar. With his recruits, Brutus tried to eliminate the tyrants of the island.[1]
Middle Ages[]
By the 9th century CE, the Hidden Ones were still operating in Greece. Around 861, one of their members, Itamos, came across a sketch of a Hidden Blade belonging to Darius, a 5th century BCE Persian assassin and predecessor to the Hidden Ones. He subsequently sent it to the Master Assassin Roshan, a member of the Alamut Brotherhood in Persia.[2]
Renaissance[]
In 1511, the Greek Assassins in Athens were having problems with retaining the trust of the people since the city came under Ottoman rule. Receiving aid from the Ottoman Brotherhood, they convinced the people that they were an independent organization, not working for any nation. Together, the two Brotherhoods also prevented the Ottoman soldiers from looting the Greek people, who acted against the orders of the Sultan.[3]
That same year, the Rhodian Master Assassin Castor was captured by the Knights Hospitalier. Ottoman and Greek Assassins sent by Ezio Auditore found that he had been murdered, and in retaliation, they burnt down the Hospitalier Compound.[3]
In 1516, the Greek Assassins were given an Apple of Eden recovered from the Templars for safekeeping. However, the compound where the artifact was being stored was attacked by the rogue Assassin Hiram Stoddard, who sought to use the Apple to communicate with his deceased lover Elena. Although Hiram managed to kill the Assassin guards and steal the Apple,[4] he was soon confronted by his old rival, the Italian Assassin Giovanni Borgia, who defeated Hiram and recovered the Apple, taking it elsewhere.[5]
