In 1190, Rafik gave Altaïr the grappling hook, allowing the Assassin to traverse gaps and chasms, as well as pull enemy guards towards him, allowing him to deal the final blow.[1]
In 1841, Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir used a rope dart as a grappling hook during his quest to recover the Koh-i-Noor from the Templar William Sleeman.[2]
