Gamal Sabry was a member of the Egyptian Brotherhood of Assassins who operated in Cairo in the mid-19th century, alongside his wife Safiya El-Nadi. Gamal also operated a book cart, which he noted was "an excellent way for an Assassin to monitor the streets", though he was quite passionate about books.[1]

Biography[]

Gamal and Safiya housed British Brotherhood member Pierrette Arnaud during her time in Cairo, eventually considering her part of the family.[2]

On 1 November 1869, Gamal noticed Pierrette and Safiya were being eavesdropped on by a man in an European dress, and placed a copy of Ibrahim Hakkı Erzurumi's Book of Gnosis on a table facing them, their agreed symbol for danger. While Safiya went to deal with the Templar lackey, Gamal created a diversion, having his well-trained donkey start braying to draw the attention of all that were around.[1] Safiya and Pierrette hid the spy's body and once night fell, Gamal and Safiya used the book cart to take the body to a nearby necropolis while Pierrette went to the Khedivial Opera House for her mission.[3]

In the early hours of the following day, the trio went back to the opera house to dispose of the body of Pierrette's target before returning to their house and discussing the modified cane Hawkins had rigged to explode and kill Khedive Ismail Pasha. The trio went to inform councilmember Amira Benyamina who, noting that even some Templars would hesitate to bomb an opera house full of people, decided to get more information on Hawkins, while tasking the trio with investigating the railroad he had built leading to seemingly nowhere.[2]

Searching for the Ankh[]

Leading Safiya and Pierrette, Gamal ventures with his team along Hawkins' railroad and make camp near the end of the line. At night, they were surprised by Simeon Price, Pierrette's former mentor. Comparing notes, they learn that Armen Kazan led a group of twelve Templars into a cave nearby and how the Templars possess the Ankh.[4] Finding another entrance, they ventured into the cave and found statues of the gods Set, Horus, Iris, and Osiris. While Gamal told the story between the gods, Pierrette became impatient with her group and angrily veered off without them.[5]

Initially lost, Gamal regrouped with Safiya and Simeon and found a trail to the Templar's cave den, where they saw the Ankh activated, most of the Templars dead, and Pierrette captured. Attacking, the Assassins fought against the Templars but Gamal becomes slightly injured. However, seeing a picture come to life in the shape of a resurrected horse,[6] Gamal and Simeon gave chase after it and the Austrian Templar Art Hennighan, who held the Ankh. However, both men lost their trace and were later told to stay if more Templars returned. Unfortunately, they did not and both men returned back to Cairo to inform Amira of the outcome and check on an injured Pierrette.[7]

Aiding Simeon and Pierrette[]

While Pierrette recuperated, Gamal found a letter and gave it to Pierrette, who read it and stated that Elizabeth Siddal's body was exhumed.[8] Meanwhile, Gamal and the other Egyptian Assassins went back to the cave and recovered the rest of the other pictures to stop any more resurrection.[9] However, the Ankh was later lost.[10] In the summer of 1873, Gamal later traveled to Brussels for a book and to check on Simeon Price's progress with the Austrian Templar Countess Konstanze von Visler. However, he suspected that Simeon had been growing close and affectionate with the countess but kept his thought to himself.[11]

In the next days, Gamal was told by Simeon of his recent attack by the Château Aarden's host Lambert and how he must leave Brussels. While talking, Gamal promised to check on the countess while he departed. However, it proved for naught as Konstanze slipped past his rader after Simeon.[12] Nearly a decade later, he and Safiya visited a sadden Pierrette at Crabbet Farm to discuss her recent mission on saving Queen Victoria. While Pierrette told them of her losing Spider Wallin for months, they were interrupted by the farm's owner Anne Blunt, who relayed news of Alexandria being bombed by England.[13]
