Foot Race was a virtual representation of one of Kassandra's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.5.
Description[]
Kassandra and Roxana met up once more to finish their training in preparation for the Battle of One Hundred Hands.
Dialogue[]
Kassandra and Roxana arrived at the latter's house.
So, shall we complete our training?
- Kassandra: I want to finish this training - that's it.
- Roxana: All business, eh, champion? You need to loosen up once in a while.
- Kassandra: Maybe after this next challenge.
(If players choose "What do you mean, foot race?")
- Kassandra: The last part of training is a race?
- Roxana: The Battle of One Hundred Hands is about skill, strength, and most of all, endurance. A tired competitor is an easy target for someone with stamina. I make regular offerings to Hermes to stay fast.
(If players choose "What do I win?")
- Kassandra: And if I win this race, what will I get?
- Roxana: Bragging rights alone.
- Kassandra: Great.
- Roxana: It's not the result you should be after, it's the training. After this, you will be ready to enter the Battle of One Hundred Hands. I will vouch for you, and you will vouch for me.
- Kassandra: I'm ready. You said race to the high point-
- Roxana: Yes! The plateau on the other side of town. When I say go, the race is on. Three... Two... One...
Go!
The two women began running towards Lover's Leap.
- Roxana: Come on, champion! Is that all you've got?
- Kassandra: It's not over yet!
- Roxana: You'll need to move faster in the Battle, champion!
- Kassandra: I'm pacing myself!
Kassandra managed to overtake Roxana.
- Kassandra: I thought you'd be faster!
- Roxana: Just enjoying the view!
Kassandra freeran across the town to increase her lead.
- Roxana: Now you're just showing off!
- Kassandra: Should I slow down?
Kassandra reached the high point, with Roxana arriving shortly thereafter.
- Roxana: You're fast, even with all that gear.
Kassandra turned and admired the view.
- Kassandra: It's easy to forget how beautiful it is here.
- Roxana: When you're training so hard, you mean?
(If players choose "No, when you're driven to find closure.")
- Kassandra: I'm trying to restore balance to my life, and to the Greek world. To find closure. But there are people standing in my way I must take care of first, and I think winning the Battle of One Hundred Hands will help.
- Roxana: What makes you think that?
- Kassandra: Call it a hunch.
(If players choose "No, when you're driven by drachmae.")
- Kassandra: I travel a lot, but it's often at the service of others. I can be so focused on drachmae that I lose sight of what's in front of me.
- Roxana: And what's that?
- Kassandra: The ocean breeze on my face. The sun on my skin. A sturdy horse to ride.
(If players choose "Yes, it's the training.")
- Kassandra: All this training leaves no time for fun.
- Roxana: I can tell you're holding something back.
- Kassandra: ...Maybe.
They were silent for a moment, and Roxana turned to face the view as well, stepping closer to the cliff.
- Roxana: I come up here to remind myself to live in the moment.
- Kassandra: I can see how that might work.
The two women continued to chat long past sundown, laughing and relaxed.
- Kassandra: If you told Barnabas there was a sea monster living in your ear, he'd believe you.
- Roxana: He sounds like a real dimwit.
- Kassandra: Actually, he's one of the most genuine people I've ever met.
- Roxana: That's Melos island right there. Where so many warriors go to die.
At the Battle, we may have to fight each other. And only one of us will survive.
- Kassandra: I thought you came up here to live in the moment?
- Roxana: How's this for in the moment?
Roxana leaned closer.
- Kassandra: Let's make it more than a moment.
The two women kissed.
- Roxana: Must you wear so many layers?
- Kassandra: Comes with the job, I guess.
After spending the night together, Kassandra and Roxana awoke the following morning.
- Kassandra: I guess this is goodbye. Until the Battle, I mean.
- Roxana: Let's not make this difficult.
- Kassandra: I can't help thinking... we don't have to cross swords.
- Roxana: You could skip the Battle as easy as I can. But you won't.
- Kassandra: You're right.
The two women stepped closer, embracing each other.
- Kassandra: Goodbye, Roxana.
Kassandra got up and prepared to depart.
- Kassandra: It was good to meet you, Roxana, but it's time to get back to the real world. Good luck in the Battle.
- Roxana: You too, champion.
Kassandra got up and prepared to depart.
- Kassandra: It was good to meet you, Roxana, but it's time to get back to the real world. Good luck in the Battle.
- Roxana: You too, champion.
Outcome[]
After having a foot race and finishing their training, Kassandra and Roxana enjoyed an evening together, following which they bid each other goodbye, until they met again at the Battle of One Hundred Hands.
