Follow Nur's Lead was a virtual representation of one of Basim Ibn Ishaq's genetic memories relived through the Animus.

Description[]

Basim travelled to the factory district of Shari' to locate Nur's contact.

Dialogue[]

Before leaving the Harbiyah bureau, Basim spoke to his mentor Roshan.

  • Basim: Is there anything more you can tell me about the Shari' district? Why would it be of interest to Nur?
  • Roshan: The people there are in quiet support of the rebels. Common folk. Workers. Merchants. Come to think of it, Nur did make mention of a new contact. A merchant. It may be this merchant dwells in Shari', among the dyeing leather factory workers.
  • Basim: I will keep an eye out for a stall.

Basim left the bureu and travelled to the factory, where he located an open store. He entered the building.

  • Dervis: Just a moment.

Basim looked at the man and recognised him as his former mentor in Anbar.

Basim reunited with his former handler, Dervis

Dervis turned around, surprised to see Basim. He approached and gave Basim a short hug.

  • Dervis: Basim! Azeezi! (My dear boy!) I thought you were dead.
  • Basim: I feared the same.
  • Dervis: What are you doing here? You... Your clothes... You are one of them now? How?
  • Basim: A Hidden One. Under Roshan's guidance.

Still unable to comprehend Basim being alive and his new allegiance to the Hidden Ones, Dervis took a step back.

  • Dervis: Forgive me, this is all too much.

Dervis sat down, with Basim doing the same.

Basim and Dervis reflecting on the incident in Anbar

  • Dervis: When I did not find you among the dead, I hoped that somehow you had escaped. I spent many nights praying for your life, praying that you had found safety. Today, Allah has answered me.

Basim sat down on another chair.

  • Basim: I am not worthy of your prayers.
  • Dervis: What happened that night was not your doing. It was the doing of evil men. You know this. It is why you have chosen to walk this path. It is why I have found my way to Baghdad. Ali ibn Muhammad is brash and sees himself a great hero of prophecy. I loathe the man, but we fight a common enemy. One I must help defeat if my soul is to one day rest.
  • Basim: So it is true. You are the rebel merchant who was helping Nur.
  • Dervis: What has become of him?
  • Basim: He clings to life, but he is safe among our people. I am to continue his work and hunt Baghdad's oppressors. Ali was helping Nur get closer to one such man, but as you may know, he has since disappeared.
  • Dervis: He hasn't disappeared. He has been captured. A fate shared by many rebels of late.
  • Basim: Do you know where he is being held?
  • Dervis: He was taken to the Khurasan Gate Guardhouse, but that was weeks ago.

Hearing received an important clue, Basim got up and prepared to leave.

  • Dervis: You even leave like they do.
  • Basim: It is good to see you again.
  • Dervis: Just watch yourself. You may be in better hands, but I am still a nagging old man. And Basim... If you ever are feeling a little ... thievish, come see me. I could use your help. For a good cause, of course.

Basim left Dervis' stall and made his way to the Khurasan Gate Guardhouse in the Khuld district.

  • Basim: This is the outpost Ali was taken to.

Basim eavesdropping from the haystack

Heavily guarded, Basim navigated his way up various scaffoldings and found an entrance on the side. He dived into a haystack and eavesdropped on the nearby guards.

  • Soldier 1: I saw that before. Are you and the scribe ever going to play nicely along together?
  • Soldier 2: Not likely. The man thinks he can let loose his tongue just because of his rank. If he gets in my way again I will kill him myself.
  • Soldier 1: And who will record the prisoners then? You? You cannot fasten your own bracers, let alone write.
  • Soldier 2: If it means we rid ourselves of his blithering, I will happily learn.

Basim entered a small room and found someone fitting the soldier's descriptions.

  • Basim: That one looks like a scribe.

He eliminated the scribe and looted his key.

Basim investigating the scribe's quarters

  • Basim: I will hold on to that for you.

Basim unlocked and entered a room with the key.

  • Basim: This looks like a scribe's quarters.

He found a note on the table.

  • Basim: A list of prisons, all paired with different marks.

Outcome[]

Basim was reunited with Dervis, revealed to be Nur's contact, and acquired a list of possible prisons Ali might have been transferred to from the Khurasan Gate Guardhouse.
