Flyting is a spoken-word contest popular among the Norse and Anglo-Saxons, in which the contestants attempt to insult each other while maintaining a specific rhyme and rhythm.
History
In the late 9th-century, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan learned the art of flyting from her clansman Alvis.[1] She would later gain renown in the sport by challenging and besting people across Norway and the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy.[2]
