Darcy Clarkson (born c. 2004) is a member of the British Brotherhood of Assassins, and a descendant of the Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye.[1]

In 2029, Darcy traveled to London to rescue her brother Lucas, who was kidnapped by the Templars after he broke the Assassins' truce with them by entering the city.[2][3] Darcy allied with the hacker collective DedSec to find her missing brother,[4] and also to prevent the Templar Graham Westerly from accessing an Assassin tomb in the city.[5] She would later join DedSec.[6]

Biography[]

Inspired by the acts of their Victorian era ancestors in liberating London from its stranglehold under the British Templars, Lucas wanted to follow in their footsteps and take the fight to the resurgent Templars in London. This caused friction with Darcy, who warned him that the British Brotherhood was too weak to fight back, though he in turn chided her for not showing initiative like their forbearers and warned his sister to not follow him.[2]

Despite his warning, Lucas knew that Darcy would follow him anyway, so he marked intel and left audio files for her to find. Darcy was angry with Lucas at first, but later attempted to apologize.[2] Though she threatened to leave London without him, she ultimately decided to stay until they could both leave.[3]

Darcy was soon contacted by the Templar Graham Westerly, who had captured Lucas, and she attempted to negotiate for his release. Westerly declined, seeing more value in the information Lucas held. Darcy eventually located her brother and Westerly, and allied with DedSec to attempt a rescue, with DedSec handling the hacking and determining Lucas' precise location in Albion Station Kennington while she would handle the infiltration and retrieval.[4]

Hacking into the camera feed for interview room 2XB, Darcy and the DedSec operative accompanying her witnessed Lucas strapped to a chair and connected to a machine, while Graham paced in and out of camera view, talking about how his team was attempting to breach an Assassin tomb. Lucas died from his injuries on camera, sending Darcy into a rage, but Bagley warned that security had been notified about them and that it was better to make themselves scarce.[4]

After escaping, Darcy and the DedSec operative went to the tomb's location on the Buckingham Palace grounds. The DedSec operative neutralized the security team guarding the tomb and scrambled the security system to buy Darcy more time to enter the tomb. She entered the tunnels and made her way to the tomb proper, finding statues of various Assassins, including her ancestors Jacob and Evie, as well as Edward Kenway. She also discovered the entrance to an ancient Isu vault, inside which lay an Assassin outfit. Darcy donned the outfit moments before Westerly and his Templar entourage entered the tomb.[5]

Furious that Darcy had breeched his security, Westerly yelled at his guards, ordering them to find the Assassin and kill her on sight. Darcy dealt with the guards, found Westerly, and assassinated him with her Hidden Blade. Though her brother's killer was dead and the tomb safe, Darcy decided to remain in London to continue fighting the Templars,[5] and accepted DedSec's invite to join them.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

Darcy is featured as a playable operative in the Season Pass of Watch Dogs: Legion, a game also developed by Ubisoft, and is voiced by the English actress Hatty Preston.[1]

Despite the crossover, Darcy is purely "fan service" according to Watch Dogs: Legion Live Producer Lathieeshe Thillainathan and is thus not considered canon within the Assassin's Creed series.[7][8] In an August 2020 interview, scriptwriter Jared Schincariol, who also worked on Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, described Darcy as a fun character with "earnest pluck and sarcastic bite". He added that as Darcy was a descendant of Jacob and Evie Frye, the main protagonists of Syndicate, she was very aware of the big legacy she strove to live up to. Schincariol also stated that while Darcy is considered "very much her own person with her own story", Darcy and her missions were "a sort of love letter to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate".[1]
